Yukon Gear & Axle (YG GM8.5-456) High Performance Ring & Pinion Gear Set for GM 8.5/8.6 Differential

I was scared because of the reviews, but this pinion and bearing are just amazing when installed correctly.I installed it myself with rotation torque tool and needle indicator. Pop the old pinion out, put the used shim on a new pinion and youre ready to go.You ---must<--- buy it with a differential rebuild kit(BEWARE, DOESNT CONTAIN AXLE SEALINGS AND BEARINGS!!!) if you want a proper installation. My old bearings was amazing and and in almost like new shape but i didnt take the risk so i replaced everything.One problem i encounter is the crush sleeve that comes with the kit. Im a very strong man, and it took all my power to start crushing it. It was nothing like in youtube. But i did everything within specs, it runs amazing. Really smooth and i cannot hear it (people say its noisy, it is not when installed properly. I really cant hear it).Just follow the manual, do a service after 500 miles with high quality 75W90 Fully synthetic!!!! This is important. Do not use Mineral since it runs hotter, and you will really enjoy your rear end.Lets see how it holds the power.

Very quite gears!

Installed gears and was amazed how quite they were. Very pleased with the product and pleased on how easy they were to install, spacing was almost factory to where stock shims can be used. Thanks

Just installed in my 8.5, will be installing soon so we will see how they do. Update brought my truck to a certified shop for the gears to be set up, they tried 6 different times to set up the gears everything is in spec all new bearings crush sleeves and seals and can not get them to stop whining, will be pulling them out soon and going with a different brand

From what I’ve seen online and on YouTube there was some things that had me questioning if these were Yukons or counterfeits. These were much cheaper than what Yukon lists them for and any where else selling them for. The box is exactly as I’ve seen before but the internal packaging looked different and some things with the gears themselves. I sent many pics to Yukon asking for them to confirm if they’re legit or not and they confirmed the gears are theirs. Yukon was easy to deal with on this matter. I haven’t installed them yet but I’m sure they’re fine. Also one thing that had me questioning the authenticity is that there was no info,instructions,decals or anything which I’ve seen included in other peoples. As long as they’re Yukons I don’t care about the rest.

Gears arrived as described. Professionally Installed and gears are noisy at 35-55 mph. Have tried adjusting settup to top end and bottom end of specs and no change to noise. Will be installing a different brand of gears soon.
