Replaced with no quibble
After buying my first Garmin forerunner 55 I was disappointed to find it was not recording things correctly. The back light was too low and on full couldn’t pick up. However, after returning it for another I was really well happy. This one worked perfectly, does a lot more than I need but is a great watch.

Great price
Although a week’s delay watch received is as expected. If you’re too bothered with receipt of item within a certain time frame I would recommend buying the particular watch at the advertised lower price .

Don’t hesitate!
Thrilled. Great price. It’s been great for tracking sleep, gps for runs is really accurate and quick to set up. I wish there was a function for weights but not the end of the world. Highly recommend for a beginner watch!

Great fitness device
I am really pleased with this purchase. Very reasonably priced for the type of device. I really like Garmin and the Garmin app from previously owning a vivoactive 3 which gave up after a good few years of use. The forerunner 55 suits my needs better than the vivoactive in that it is button operated rather than touch screen. I often lost activities with the vivoactive dueSee to a coat or running jacket operating the screen. The forerunner 55 is a much more definite function operation which I really like. I've used the watch for hiking and running so far and it's been brilliant regarding information, GPS tracking, linking to Strava, etc. The battery life between charges seems very good so far. I also really like the fact you need to push a button to illuminated the watch rather than it light up on movement as the vivoactive did. The watch still lights up when lifting to view during an activity which is perfect for me. I have also started using Garmin coach for a running aim and this is a brilliant motivator as well as stopping me overtraining which I have done in the past.Thoroughly recommend Garmin and this device for ease of use, practicality, toughness, training options and how it looks.

A good upgrade
Bought the 55 to replace an older Forerunner 45. I hope this is as good and lasts as long. I don't need or want all the bells and whistles. As long as it tracks exercise accurately, reports through Strava and I can use Garmin Connect to add and track health stats, I'm happy. The battery life on this will be a lot better, if it lives up to the claims, which will make it just about perfect. Oh, and it uses the same charging cable- bonus! It's a bit annoying that Connect can't handle both watches, as I'd still like to use the 45 for rougher activities.

Perfect fitness watch
The Garmin Forerunner 55 is an excellent fitness watch, especially for active users who want reliable tracking and easy smartphone connectivity. It delivers accurate GPS performance, great battery life, and a range of features that make it a solid choice for sports enthusiasts. My son, who is passionate about swimming and sports, loves using this watch to track his activity. It provides detailed insights into workouts, heart rate, and performance metrics, helping him stay on top of his training. The lightweight design makes it comfortable to wear all day, and the interface is intuitive, making it easy to access stats and notifications. Syncing with his iPhone works seamlessly, allowing him to review progress, set goals, and stay motivated. For anyone looking for a well-rounded GPS watch that balances performance, ease of use, and smart features, the Forerunner 55 is a fantastic option. It’s durable, dependable, and a great tool for anyone serious about staying active.

Several Irritating Features But Works OK
Having had a couple of good Garmin watches in the past I decided to stick with the brand when my Forerunner 30 died. The 55 had good reviews so ordered one but was immediately annoyed to see a completely unique power lead, this means throwing out two old Garmin charging cables, more plastic waste in the environment, thanks for that Garmin. Next annoyance is the display. Call me old fashioned but I just like a 24 hour clock with four digits the same size. It is impossible to get this. The choice is between unpleasant looking digital displays or utterly hideous attempts to make it look like an old fashioned watch. Ok, so does it at least work for running? Yeah, I guess, but again why mess with the display? Just give me time, distance and pace please, but oh no, instead I have an arbitrary meaningless time counting down filling most of the screen. Didn't work this out until the second run when I realised it was suggesting I run 9.2 miles in 38 minutes. I'm an intermediate runner but even in my prime I couldn't run that distance in an hour! Maybe once I have downloaded the full manual I will be able to iron out some of these features but it's a pain that I have to. Just cannot work out why Garmin would mess about with all these standard features in such an irritating way. Might just do away with their watches in the future and just use my phone.Have just amended this review to one star after having used the watch for a few months now. It really is a piece of crap. The heart rate measurements stop updating to the app every so often for no reason and you have to turn the watch off and on again to get it to work. If you are walking up a hill the watch is unable to measure your progress and you will look at and realise that for the last hour your pace has been 0.0. Even when walking on a level surface it has problems, often I've walked 100 yards or more and no steps have been counted but then it starts counting when I stroke a cat! And weirdest of all, there's no outdoor swim option! I tried swimming and measuring it as a walk, planning to change it to a swim activity on the app at least, but guess what, pace = 0.0.And I still really hate the display.
