I received mine with the wall control as well as the remote. According to the description this one will come with both. The remote comes with a holster that can be screwed on the wall anywhere convenient to the user. The wall control will replace your light switch controlling that fixture a small LED light will indicate if the remote is disabled or not which you control with a small button on the wall control. The down tube was 8" (If I remember right). It does not come with multiple down rods but you can order same spec longer rods from other users. I get many compliments on the design of this ceiling fan.

Q: Can you use both wall switch and remote?

The wall switch must always be on for the fan to work regardless of whether you are just by turning the fan on or off by the switch or you are using the remote. So yes you can use both but must always have the wall switch on for the remote to work as well.
