Osprey Transporter 44L Carry-On Backpack, Black

Was perfect for my trip to Guatemala— there are a lot of pebbled streets and I unpaved roads so being able to use this as a suitcase that I could carry backpack style was perfect. Also plenty of room for everything needed for my 9 day trip.

This pack is lightweight and has a lot of organizational areas. Wonderful for traveling!

Better than expected

With checked luggage fees and lost baggage most travelers bring a carry-on these days and for most it is a roll-aboard. BUT you can still be required to check a roll-aboard because they can't be stuffed (due to the rigid frames and wheels) like a backpack duffel can. This Osprey Transporter is a very durable backpack/duffel that is great as a substitute for a roll-aboard carry-on. Without packing cubes or space saving bags I was able to pack a week's worth of clothing for a summertime trip to Boston into this Transporter. With space savers I was able to get a week's worth of winter clothing into this Transporter. It is heavy with that many clothes and the duffel strap and the backpack straps (without the waist strap support buckled) can be uncomfortable, but it is still a great alternative to a roll-aboard.

Only bag I’ll ever use again

strap attachments break easily. i bought this a little over 2 months ago and loved it on my first trip. thoughtfully placed compartments and layout make single bag travel possible. can easily pack a week’s worth of gear and not feel cramped. the clips that attach the straps to the bag that allow you to change configuration between backpack/ duffle etc are all made of plastic with a very thin metal moving piece to secure the clip closed. these do not last. fastener broke on my second trip under very normal use and now the bag can no longer be used as a backpack; the primary way i carry it. very disappointing for a travel bag less than 3 months old

I'll say upfront this Osprey bag is probably one of the best designed large capacity bags I've seen. But, as others have noted, the back is completely unventilated, making it an instant sweat factory if you're walking for more than 15 minutes. But besides that, for such a large bag, not having a hip strap was for me a non starter. Fully loaded this pack has the potential to be quite heavy (on it's own it's already among the heaviest bags I've tried), so without the hip support I think it's just an aching back waiting to happen.
