I bought this mug as a present for a family member who is a “Trekkie” from the original series. So a mug with Kirk, Spock, “Bones” McCoy and Uhuru was always going to be popular. The background cleverly mimics the effects of the transporter which materializes the four characters from the aboard the Enterprise to a “red”planet. Note : It only color changes with hot water. It also ticks most safety standards and is apparently FDA Approved, compliant with California’s Proposition 65 with regard to safe drinking water standards and is also microwave safe.The only thing that could have been improved would be to Include Sulu and/or Chekov. Otherwise, it’s a wonderful, unique gift for any Star Trek fan of the original series.

Awesome cup! Because of the material used for it to work like it does, make sure and just handwashing with dawn liquid. We have had no problems and have had it for years. Great quality cup! If you put it in the dishwasher or used something real abrasive to clean it, it will ruin it. It is a fun cup my wife loves. Hopefully this helps.

Nice gift for someone who likes star treck but it’s just fun to see them appear on the other side. It becomes an experience of making a cup of tea. Take a moment and watch them fade and appear, there’s something meditative about such cup.

It’s cool. If you never use it the paint won’t come off. Mine has been only hand washed since Christmas and now, half the paint is gone. No harsh scrubbing as it’s a coffee mug. No need. But with regular use, the paint falls off. As a collection piece it’s likely great but due to paint issues, I took stars away.Edit: after the company reached out to me, I received a replacement mug. Many props to them for making it right. I added a star to my initial review due to exceptional customer service.

I have a friend who never watched any Star Trek.Yeah, I know, shocking right?!Anyhow, I decided to introduce Star Trek in chronological order beginning with enterprise.We got into the original Star Trek after watching new voyages at least as much as is available right nowSo I got my friend this coffee cup as a "graduation gift."He loved it, and the beam down effect is very nice.
