Q: will this mat set off for 5 pounds? we want this for a kitty door alarm

Yes it is sensitive to touch even. I believe it will go off if a kitty stepped on it. I have purchased 3 of these and using for my dog. She was a rescue dog and never barks or scratches the door when she wants to go out. This works perfect when she goes to back door and just stands there it goes off and I know she needs to go out

Q: Is the alarm wired to the mat or is it wireless? I want to put the mat outside my door and have alarm inside.

We have a model that is wireless, its called C4A

Q: How sensitive are these? Can the sensitivity be controlled? Will be used by doggy door, would like light weight pup not to set it off every time.

It is pretty sensitive and the sensitivity cannot be adjusted. It may still be set off every time your puppy walks over it.
