First of all I have to say that I did NOT purchase this item for it's intended use! I asked a question of the seller about the possibilities of using this mat as a sanding or router pad (to hold wood in place without clamps while sanding or routing edges). The seller stated what the material was (Closed cell ?Neoprene? Rubber) and thought it just might work for that application. I decided to purchase to check it out. I'm very pleased I did! This mat is almost perfect for this application and about a 1/3 of the cost of a similar pad that stated that it is a "Router" or "Sanding" pad. I say "almost" because some (not all) router/sanding pads are made of a silicone rubber compound that will resist having wood glue stick to it - so I can also use it as a gluing pad (I believe wood glue will really stick to this neoprene), again though not all pads are made with silicone and the silicone rubber pads at this size would be close to 5x the cost if you could find them.As far as a tool box liner, I can see where this would be nice albeit a bit thick for my taste. But I haven't tried it, nor do I plan on trying it in my "already" padded tool box :-). As a routing and sanding pad though, this is top notch and will save a bunch of money and least in the short run. I'm hopeful that this will hold up as long as some of the lesser cost routing pads (the ones that aren't silicon) and if it doesn't I'll be sure to amend this review. If you are reading this review and the posting date is more than 6 months ago, consider that this pad held up as long or longer than the other pads!

So this thing smelled like acetone when I took it out of the box. I was using it indoors to protect a table from kettlebells and I couldn't allow it to make my house have a chemical odor (which was happening by the minute). I left it in the garage for 3 days to air out and the problem was solved. I have a very sensitive nose - if I put it directly up to my nose I can catch a hint of the smell, but not at all in my poorly ventilated room.It's holding up well and the indentations left behind by weights/tools mostly go away after a day or so. There are still imprints where the 30lb kettlebell was hanging out for a week but it's completely fine. The table surface is unscathed and that's what matters to me.

I got these to cover some tables in my office. Worked really well. I had 2 tables, so I ordered 2. When I spread them out I noticed that they are slightly different. Both are good quality, no tears or imperfections. But one is slightly smoother and a tiny bit softer, while the other is a bit closer to the white foam you get in packages sometimes. I'd certainly say I'm happy with my purchase, but this does show that it varies.

Item measured short after unrolling so I let it set unrolled for three days to see if it was simply squeezed during packaging/shipping. It did not change. Still 3" short and an 1/8" narrow of the advertised length and width. 1/8" narrow would not be an issue by itself, but considering length was off significantly makes this a strong NO for purchase. Made in the USA I expected it to be sold and sized as advertised. I would not recommend this brand/item. (Update 9.04.19) Amazon customer service is terrific. They immediately replaced the neoprene order with a new mat. XCEL only excels at poor quality assurance. Replacement mat was closer to the advertised size, but still short. Second one measured 70 3/8. Far from 72" advertised. If I could reduce the stars to a negative for poor product I would. Pass on this brand.

Not bad stuff. BUT be advised, indents created by tools or other items that compress the padding do not heal. Once the pad is compressed, the indentation stays in the pad. This is kind of annoying if you plan on moving things around in lieu of keeping them in the exact same spot for all eternity.
