Take the leap and learn to fly!
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna is the kind of book that wraps around you like a cozy blanket and gently reminds you that being different doesn’t make you unlovable—it makes you extraordinary. At its heart, this story is about learning to believe in love, even when life has taught you to guard against it. Mika is a witch who’s spent her whole life hiding who she is, told to stay apart from others for their safety—and hers. But when she takes a chance and steps into a strange house full of equally irregular people, she begins to see that maybe, just maybe, she can belong somewhere. The most beautiful theme in this book is the reminder that even if you can’t fix everything, you can still make things better. That love and healing don’t require perfection—they just need openness, bravery, and connection. Mika’s journey to heal from her past and finally allow herself to be loved is deeply touching, and so relatable for anyone who’s ever been afraid to let people in.My favorite quote:“It's a leap of faith to love people and let yourself be loved. It's closing your eyes, stepping off a ledge into nothing, and trusting that you'll fly rather than fall.”I hope everyone finds the courage to take that leap. I hope we all learn to fly.

enchanting and whimsical
I absolutely devoured this book! Each character was so well-written and unique that I quickly grew attached to them—well, with the exception of Edward. The story itself was enchanting and whimsical. However, if I’m being honest, I didn’t love the romance. Call me a curmudgeon, but it felt forced into the story and unneeded, ultimately detracting from the aspects of the story I was most invested in. Despite that, it was still an incredibly enjoyable read that I’m so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone for! And now I look forward to reading similar books this year.

sweet!
This one was just a warm, cozy hug that also made me laugh out loud (why is it so funny when 10 year old witches cuss?).Mika is a witch. She’s in her early 30s and she’s never really settled down. Because she’s never wanted to get attached. In a world where witches must be kept secret, she doesn’t want to grow close to someone only to have to hide who she is. Owing to The Rules, she only sees a few other witches from her area on the third Thursday of the third month each quarter for a quick and secret catch up. For fun, she posts “witchy” videos online. So imagine her surprise when a “normal” sees one of her videos and knows that she is the real deal.At Nowhere House, there are 3 young witches being raised by 4 nonmagical adults. Mika has always been told that witches cannot live together because there is too much magic and they will be noticed. But with the wards and protections around the house, she thinks that maybe she can stay there long enough to teach the young witches how to control their magic before a thoroughly non magical man comes for an inspection. This one was really sweet. It’s about found family, believing in yourself and more than that about having faith in others. Someone recently asked why I liked books about magic so much and it’s because, well, they tend to be magical? Definitely a sweet read.

Read for fantasy achievement
For a fantasy book, the storyline wasn’t too bad. Mika Moon is a witch who is found online by a non-traditional family that has 3 child witches. They are looking for someone who can train the children to use their magic in a safe way. Mika soon finds the family she has never had. I would have rated this book higher but the foul language and frequent F-word ruined it for me.▪️Language - yes, excessive▪️Sex scenes - Yes, one▪️Violence - None

Witch witch is she?
Mika was a witch raised by nannies. Her guardian Primrose kept her at a distance and told Mika that witches should never befriend other witches for fear they would be exposed. This made Mika feel like she couldn't stay in one place for very long. But when she answered a plea from Nowhere House to help train 3 young orphaned witches, she was thrust into a life she never imagined and a shocking discovery about her guardian Primrose.

5 Stars!
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is a heartwarming, magical hug of a book that completely stole my heart. Sangu Mandanna weaves a story that’s as cozy as a cup of tea on a rainy day, with just the right blend of found family, gentle romance, and charming whimsy.Mika Moon is a delight—quirky, kind, and wonderfully complex. Watching her grow from someone who’s always kept the world at arm’s length into someone who finds true connection was incredibly satisfying. And the cast of supporting characters, especially the three magical children and the gruff yet endearing Jamie, brought so much life and love to the story. This book is not just about witches and magic—it’s about belonging, healing, and choosing your own family. The writing is effortlessly engaging, the setting is beautifully atmospheric, and the entire story radiates kindness and hope.If you’re looking for a gentle, magical escape filled with love and laughter, this book is absolute perfection.

Gold
This is not my genre. (I read it to get a Goodreads bookmark.) So I didn’t know what to expect. This book is a bit more sappy than I really like, but it was also a bit more magical than I thought it would be. That combination was just right and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Witches and humans solve a problem and maybe start a bit of a revolution in the world of both. Magic, love, family, and a happy ending.
