A great solution for low power and small factor setups.
This graphics card has received a lot of unfair criticism online - only a few reviews critique it within the context of where it’s most likely to be used.I bought this because my laptop simply isn’t made for gaming, and it was suffering under some CAD work. I wanted a physical desktop for my office. I bought a low cost 9th gen core i5 sff used office computer from a well known auction site, and I wanted to give it some GPU grunt. This SFF PC only accepts low profile graphics cards (I wanted a small machine). It also has a limited power supply with no PCIe auxiliary output - so I’m limited to the PCIe x16 slot for power. The bottom line is, if you are constrained on power and space, this is simply the best card you can get. It’s not going to win any benchmarks. It’s somewhere between a nvidia GTX 1050 and GTX 1650 for performance (and depending on the situation, sometimes comes out on top of both). But, performance per watt is unbeatable, and you’ll be hard pressed finding a single slot low profile non-powered version of those cards.I got this because I’m an aging millennial who sometimes likes to fire up old games, and need some 3D acceleration for CAD. This does the job perfectly. In fact, I had StarCraft 2 on full settings, with AA and vertical sync running in 4K last night on my TV - and it mostly sat at the 60Hz refresh rate - with rare drops to 50% refresh rate to 30Hz. Sure, star craft 2 is getting on, but that’s likely the max this with endure. For 1080p gaming with reasonable settings, this will still play everything out there.Essentially, with this card, and the cost of the rest of the machine, I’ve been able to put together quite a formidable workstation for less than £300.As long as you are aware of its limits and know its use case, this is an excellent purchase and has blown me away with the performance - I wasn’t expecting a lot, but I wasn’t expecting this much either. The card comes with a low profile bracket attached, and is supplied with a full height bracket if you need it (but to be fair, if you have full height expansion slots, you could get much better performance elsewhere for not much more). The stability has been fine - I think AMD get an unfair rep when it comes to drivers. They fully support other operating systems with little in the way of proprietary binary blobs (unlike other players in the market). Can’t fault it. Excellent card for what I got it for. I’ll come back with more pictures and add some minor feedback when I’ve tried more modern games.
