Q: Is this unit 750/1500 watts?

In the manual it says the low setting is 750, high is 1500. All it does when you switch between high and low is turn on one or both elements.

Q: can the light be turned off when the heater is on?

Yes. the first pull on the switch string turns on at 750 amps with the light on. the second pull raises to 1500 amps. with light. the third pull changes to 750 and turns light off. fouth goes to 1500 with light off. last pull turns heater ogg

Q: Can I install a rheostat to control this heater?

Absolutely. I plugged in a programmable and it keeps the dog kennel a comfortable 60 degrees. One item, though, is these heaters do what they are supposed to, the continued on-off over time did wear them out. This is my 3rd, over the past 4 years. This heater has no problem heating the 12' x 22' room on the low setting. For the money, I will continue to replace it as they wear out.

Left mine on for a couple hours (2 hours) while working outside. Now only the little red light comes on. Guess I'll have to get a replacement soon
