Very easy. Just manually move the lever. The lever is at the top of the shovel part (not the handle).

Hello Jim, we suggest using a fully matched battery from our own Voltask brand with our snow shovel, otherwise, the performance of the snow shovel will be affected or it will cause some damage to the unit.
