Brilliant
I bought a couple of these magnets four months ago and they've really done the business in our house. We live in a hard water area and have always had problems with our kitchen sink tap that uses ceramic cartridges regularly dripping due to calcium build up and the only way around it was by removing and cleaning the cartridges and eventually replacing them more frequently than normal. We also had to descale our kettle every couple of weeks because it furred up so quickly. We first noticed that our tap water and hot drinks tasted much better and then that the kettle wasn't scaling up anywhere near as fast. It's now lasting about 8 weeks instead of two and (fingers crossed ) I've not had to maintain the kitchen tap once since I fitted them. One final thing that we've since noticed is that the wash hand basin taps and our two shower control knobs now turn much easier than they used to although it took 2-3 months before we started to notice this. I was so impressed that I decided to buy four more and fitted one on the washing machine water feed and in other recommended areas. I don't know if more magnets will add to the overall protection but I decided they couldn't do any harm. I note reading the reviews that they haven't worked for everybody but in our case they've really exceeded our expectations.

Very effective and easy to fit
Works well on my vented system with water tank, I used 4 : one on mains input, one on each of the water tank outputs, one on the mains input to sink cold drinking water and washing machine. It works very well and the sink draining area and washing machine remain clean, plus all the taps are clean.I had an electronic magnetic unit before that worked ok until it expired, but the 4 unit system above is the tops. The only downside is that the units have to be at least 2 ft from sensitive electronics as there is a quite strong external magnetic field around each unit. So if that would be a problem you best get a metal cased in line magnetic filter fitted.

Wow
Was told about these by our plumber as we live in a hard water area which means among other things, buying a new kettle every year despite using descalers.I was very dubious but went ahead and bought some, fitted one on the inlet pipe near the stop cock, one on the pipe for the cold tap in the kitchen and one on the inlet pipe on the shower, just over a month later there is still no sign of any chalk, our month old kettle still looks brand new inside, the shower head is clear and i am now a believer. If you live in a hard water area get some, they work, i don't know how but they do.

Brilliant
I attached this to the cold water feed under my kitchen sink almost a week ago. There's not a single visible bit of lime scale in my kettle (previously very bad) I'm going to buy another for the main water supply to the house, and one for the central heating system.

UPDATE After 6 Months Use
6 Month Update - I can say with absolute certainty that in the hard water area I live in Boston this device has made absolutely no difference at all. My coffee machine has a sensor that tell me when it needs descaling and it is as frequent as before. My kettle furs up just as it always has and my steam cleaner and water filter also need regular descaling. I think this is one of those 'Emperors New Clothes' gadgets...... However feel free to chuck your money away, I myself would suggest you buy a Poundland descaler for your kettle which is like a little wire pad which attracts the limescale and use the rest to buy bottles of Astonish descaler to descale your appliances. Before fitting this I descaled my Delonghi bean to cup coffee machine and kettle. The Delonghi has a built in sensor which detects when the machine needs descaling and a warning light comes on.A month after fitting the light on the Delonghi came on, about the same time span as without this device fitted. The descaled water was just as milky as before. I then checked my kettle and there was a healthy limescale deposit all over the bottom, again about the same as normal. So my assessment is that it doesn't work, well at least not for me. I live in a very hard water area so it may show more difference in an area with softer water.

No noticeable reduction in limescale deposits observed here...
I have used this product for two months and nothing...no improvement...zilch...Still gets a couple of stars though, because the manufacturer (Neat Ideas) doesn't make any outlandish claims about the product. They merely say it "can reduce build up of limescale", which is totally different from stating that it actually does. They say that some customers "believe" it makes their water taste better and others "claim" it is good for their plants! (I took these quotes from their website and product video)Bottom line is, I found neither meaningful research or sizeable field studies, to either prove or disprove the effectiveness of magnetic fields in reducing the build up of limescale deposits. On that basis, I thought I would take a £5 punt (or gamble). Okay, so I lost. Doesn't mean the product doesn't work. It just didn't work for me, within my environment, using the water supplied by my local water company (every local area uses differing water sources and additives). It may work for you though. Give it a try! Lots of people stated it works for them in their reviews. So maybe you'll be one of the fortunate ones. Maybe it'll be the solution to your limescale problem. Go on....It's only a fiver...Worst case scenario is that you'll be buying a pair of fridge magnets!
