Finally a automatic chicken door that works as it should! First I mounted it on a 24"x32"x3/4" piece of treated plywood and then attached to the inside wall of the chicken house, over the existing exit in order to use the electrical source already there and also to protect it from the extreme Oklahoma weather and temperatures. I have only had it installed over a week but it works great, well worth the price if it keeps operating as it should. Will provide updates if anything changes.

This automatic chicken door opener is fantastic! It has given me peace of mind when I can’t get home or outside right away at night to close the existing hinged coop ‘pop’ door myself after it gets dark, and it’s super nice to know if I sleep in once in awhile, the chickens will be let out without me! The opener can have several open and close timers programmed, one for each day if you want, or just open and close at the same time every day. Programming it is not exactly intuitive with the button labels, but is very simple if you read the instructions. You can also turn off the automatic feature and just manually open and close it by pushing a button in the sturdy weatherproof control box case. There is an adjustable sensor that will stop the door if something is blocking it (like a garage door sensor). The sliding door opens/closes so slowly that I can’t imagine any chicken getting caught under it and killed, even if the sensor stopped working. It is NOT a dusk-to-dawn photocell timer, but rather one where you specify the times to open and close when you program it.Because we already had a pop door on the coop leading into the run before getting this, we had to retrofit the smaller auto door to be sure it sealed out predators and blocked the cold, so it took us more time to install. If you don’t have an existing door or if the opening is sized pretty close to what’s needed for this door, installation should not take you long at all. It also can be installed vertically or horizontally, which can help it fit if your space is limited. We have been using it for 2 months now, including through near freezing temperatures and snow, and there haven’t been any issues at all.

We purchased this JVR automatic chicken coop door in May. We were in need of a dependable automatic door because we were going on a short trip. We originally had bought the popular battery operated automatic door offered on Amazon but had to return it because it only worked intermittently. The JVR door has consistently opened and shut for our hens since day one of installation in May. We went on a week vacation in June and had someone get the eggs and check on the chickens. We were very pleased that the door did its job. We feel this is because the electric worm gear used in the JVR door is a much superior design in comparison to the plastic gear of the battery operated coop doors that are sold. The weatherproof case proved to do the job of protecting the the timer mechanism from getting wet and even though we have had a few power outages from storms it keep the set open and close times. The instructions for assembly and installation were clear and concise. The only negative is it took a few attempts to set the timer for open and shut times after reading the instructions. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the struggle I had with setting the open and shut time. But I am very pleased that it has worked everyday since installation so I will give it 4 stars.

I shopped around and there are other products out there. The price & design sold me, but the product has kept me. It's perfect. It does exactly what it says it will do and it just works! Additionally, the customer service is top notch! We bought the product over a year to get ahead of the seasons, but didn't need to install it until recently. Once we did, we noticed the timer didn't work. I searched around for a replacement part and when I couldn't find it, I reached out via their Amazon page. They responded immediately with a FIX--not a replacement. The fix was easy & it worked! Very pleased with every aspect of the purchase, product, and service.
