The marketing is misleading. It's a raid box with two drives if you use RAID - its 1/2 the space
I really like the operation of this box. I can plug in my fairly new Dell laptop into it and edit video directly from video sources on this external raided Drive. But I really did buy it thinking I was going to get 16 TB RAIDED. It turns out all the marketing material Where the headlines say a certain amount of storage, That's non-raid. The Box I got had two 8 TB drives and they just added them together. Which of course anybody buying a box like this wants the raid, so you're actually getting half of that. It's just misleading. I was on a trip for work and I'm an IT manager. I'm the one who usually sees past this lying marketing garbage. But I was driving my car and I had somebody else looking and I agreed to the purchase without really looking at it any more deeply than at a stoplight. For people like me and the rest of the world who have to make fast decisions, This is obviously a pure marketing department move to elevate the storage level in consumer searches even when they're looking at raid devices. When we all know the best possible scenario is to halve the amount. It's a good device and I still use it directly for video editing and my 6 TB I have available to me when I thought I was getting 12. But just beware. G-raid knows they are lying and they know they are tricking a lot of customers. They tricked me. I was on a deadline so I had to keep it.This message is purely about the deceptive marketing. I like the product but the product is good enough to not lie about the mirrored raid configuration storage amounts. People searching for boxes like this need to know that. And you guys fooled me because I was on the road. Hopefully this will help someone

Loud Loud Loud
High Pithced squealing noise even when in sleep mode. When actually using, it's even louder than just a basic WD Raid drive. If you don't mind being completely annoyed while using feel free to buy it.

Good quality storage and editing drive (when you get used to the sound)
I bought this hard drive primarily to use as a backup for large 4k video files from an Inspire 2 and Sony a6500. I usually edit on a Samsung T5 SSD and backup to this drive but it also works plenty fast enough to use as a primary editing drive for 4k video on Final Cut Pro.I currently have it setup as RAID 0 reducing storage to 12tb but keeping that peace of mind that there is a backup copy of my files. The noise does take a bit of getting used to, the fan runs quiet enough but the drive makes constant clicking/ grinding noises which can be rather unnerving.

A Bit Noisy. Minimal Instructions.
The drives are a bit noisy, but not intolerable. I often wonder what it's doing when it's making lots of noise, but I'm not reading or writing to it at all. Product came with bare bones instruction (a symbol-only quick start guide). There was absolutely nothing about how to change the type of RAID (it comes set to 0) and/or how to encrypt it. I eventually found the info I needed on their website, though it took a lot of time and wasn't all that clear. 2 written lines and a link in the Quick Start Manual would have made set-up a lot easier.

SO. LOUD.
The drive works fine, but my god, this is the LOUDEST DRIVE I've ever had. Just crunching and grinding away CONSTANTLY. It's incredibly distracting.
