A Gripping Chronicle of Chaos: "Broken Promises"
As a reader deeply intrigued by the tumultuous era of Jungle Raj in Bihar, I found "Broken Promises" to be an enthralling and illuminating account of those turbulent times. Authored with meticulous research and poignant storytelling, this book unravels the complexities of a period marred by lawlessness, corruption, and shattered hopes.Through vivid narratives and compelling character portrayals, the author masterfully captures the essence of Bihar's descent into chaos. From the rise of criminal elements to the erosion of governance, each chapter paints a stark picture of a society teetering on the edge of anarchy. What sets "Broken Promises" apart is its ability to delve beyond surface-level sensationalism, delving into the underlying socio-political dynamics that fueled the mayhem. One of the most striking aspects of this book is its exploration of the human cost of Jungle Raj. Through heartbreaking anecdotes and firsthand accounts, the reader is confronted with the stark realities faced by ordinary citizens caught in the crossfire of political machinations and criminal activities. The author's empathy and sensitivity shine through, making these narratives all the more poignant and compelling. Moreover, "Broken Promises" doesn't shy away from examining the systemic failures that allowed Jungle Raj to take root and thrive. By dissecting the nexus between politicians, bureaucrats, and criminals, the book offers valuable insights into the structural issues that continue to plague Bihar's governance to this day. It serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of unchecked power and the importance of accountability in a democratic society.Overall, "Broken Promises" is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the dark chapters of Bihar's history and the enduring legacy of Jungle Raj. It is a compelling narrative that not only educates but also challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about power, justice, and the pursuit of a better society. Highly recommended.

Amazing story like lucid and vivid description
Recently I completed the book by Mrityunjay Sharma...... BROKEN PROMISES - Caste Crime and Politics in Bihar.............The vivid portrayal of the expectations of the people of the land, the betrayals by the leaders in power, the casteism and how these complicated issues revolves; described in a nice storytelling style keeps the reader glued to the book......The author narrates in his own fluidic style, Jungle Raj - the reign of terror and the unimaginable situation of a state during the 90's and later in India's political heartland. This book clearly brings out how and why things took that route and the betrayal experienced by the citizens from the leaders...... to whom they looked up to, for better days, and saw their own devastation instead......This heavily researched upon literature is a must read for anyone who wants a peek into the situations that formed the politics of one of the most populous states in the largest democracy of the world.Book Authored by:Mrityunjay Sharma

A gripping non-fiction that reads like fiction!
I rarely read non-fiction, specially anything related to politics, but this book gripped me from its first page and I just wasn't able to put it down. It explains so simply, the most complex socio-political aspects of our society. If you are a beginner trying to understand the social intricacies in Hindi heartland of India, this is a must read book.

Book replacement
I recently ordered the book BROKEN PROMISES - Caste, Crime and Politics in Bihar from Amazon. However, upon receiving the item, I was extremely disappointed to find that it was merely a low-quality photocopied version rather than an authentic print. The book contains numerous misprints and formatting issues, making it difficult to read.Adding to my concern, when I attempted to provide feedback about this issue, I was unable to locate the product in my order history. It appears that the item has been removed from my ordered list, which raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability.I request an immediate resolution to this matter, either in the form of a refund or a replacement with a genuine copy of the book. Additionally, I urge Amazon to take strict action against sellers engaging in such deceptive practices, as this significantly affects customer trust and experience.I look forward to your prompt response and a satisfactory resolution.
