Fun and easy to use
What sounds it makes my 10-year-old has been enjoying this a lot. We downloaded an app to go along with it on an iPad, and he caught on to it fairly quickly. He loves making songs on it and sharing it with family. The rings can be tapped on the included foldable mat, or can be tapped on objects around the house and it will still translate to the red / green / yellow, etc on the pad and app and play the corresponding sound. Buttons at the top of the mat make a background noise or beat play. Those can be set to play continuously after tapped, and then the rings can play individual notes on top of that original beat that was started as the one using it continues to tap along creating whatever song/sound they want. It's kind of nifty and my 10-year-old is enjoying playing around with it.

Creative and Inspiring
Recently purchased this for my 11 Year old son. We had no issues connecting this to a Moto-Z or Iphone X. Essentially just plug the rings to charge. There was not a Wall Transformer Charger included, however there is a nifty Micro USB splitter / adapter cord that will take advantage of one single Micro USB Plug to charge both rings simultaneously. Admittedly, we were too excited to wait for the rings to charge and started right up for a test run. Had the two rings playing sounds in a few minutes with no issues. We simply paired each ring separately and let the full configuration of each ring process/update. No Issues navigating the application at all. The initial sounds were basic, but in no time flat, we were generating a series looping rhythm sequences, bass riffs, and synth stabs!! Additionally, I must note, these rings could essentially use the same Bluetooth connection to trigger an application that will accept "midi" which was a brilliant plan of Spheros part. The rings will differentiate a maximum of approximately twelve distinct colors reliably via the App, however being color blind, I was able to keep the music moving with no complications, After the Rings are fully charged, we saw about 2 - 2 1/2 Hours of play time which was perfect.

Fun—but the batteries on the ring are horrendous
I honestly was pleasantly surprised by this little pad. The sound kits you can download through the Specdrums app are actually quite good, and true to advertising you can use the ring on other household items of the same colors found on the pad which makes for a fun experience for the kids. My only complaint is the battery for the ring is really bad. We get out it like 15 minutes of playing time when it’s been fully charged and even less if it’s not fully charged which I found a bit disappointing. But other than that it was a fun and pleasant experience!

Even cooler than I had expected them to be!
This is one of the coolest tech toys/gadgets I've seen in a long time! I'd heard the buzz about them during the Consumer Electronics Show, so I was really excited to try them out myself. I'm not sure who has more fun using colors to create music--the kids or me! I didn't really believe that you really could make the rings work on anything but the play pad, but we've tried them on just about everything in the house and it works every time. The app is really easy to use too, and my kids love creating different songs/beat mixes. It has been fun to see them trying new things and experimenting with both sounds and colors at the same time. They often pull the rings out and let their friends try it--and it's always a hit. If you are looking for a fun toy (for you and/or the kids), I'd recommend giving the Specdrums rings a try--we've been extremely entertained by them!

Only one connects
It's a fun little toy I got my kid for Christmas but unfortunately only one ring connects. We tried everything but have been unsuccessful in using both rings at the same time. Reached out to customer service for support.::UPDATE:: the manufacturer sent some steps to troubleshoot and non worked. Also, Sphero discontinued Specdrums in Fall of 2022 and the sellers offering this product on Amazon are not authorized resellers of Sphero products (they did not obtain permission to sell our products and we are unable to identify where they sourced the products they're selling). Purchases made from un-authorized resellers are not covered under their manufacturer's warranty.

Great idea very poorly implemented
The product has a great idea of introducing music to kids through apps and tiny devices. The app itself seems to be ok and makes fairly good sounding beats without much effort. But the finger devices are horribly designed.1. There is no power on / off switch on these. To switch on the device to connect to the app via bluelooth you have to trigger the on mechanism by plugging in usb cable. If you do not have usb cable around, you can not turn on the device to be recognized. There is no button to switch off either so the only way this device with turn off when the battery completely runs out, which is just a few minutes. You can not save power by switching off at will.2. Biggest issue with these devices is the connectivity via bluetooth is very flaky. You might spend entire day trial and error plugging in and out to connect them to the app. If you are lucky, it may connect instantly.Bottom line, this product is released to the market with great packaging and marketing without spending a single day on testing. If you have lot of free time, give it a try otherwise stay away from it.

Best Bday Gift
I got these for my twins for their 6th birthday and they have spent hours playing with these. There are tons of downloadable free sound packs for different instruments and sounds. I didn't realize that you can record from the app too. Definitely happy we got these! What a great way to introduce them to music composition.
