I missed the point about Jane Austen in the 60’s when in high school. She had nothing to say, as far as I was concerned. What could this silly maiden aunt from the upper class tell a blue collar daughter? My heroes in high school were Dylan, Ginsberg, Kerouac, all the Beat Poets and Plath of The Bell Jar.I rediscovered Austen, the Brontes, Woolf and Plath of poetry after returning to school in my 20’s. Like most converts, I embraced them obsessively. Now, because of some talented Indie authors, there are so many wonderful Austen “sequels” and “alternatives” that feed our desire for more!Perhaps I’ve gone overboard, though, because I am now the proud owner of the Jane-A-Day 5-Year Journal. It is lovely: small, hard cover, gold leaf pages “with 365 Witticisms by Jane Austen.” I feel as if I’ve moved back in time, though. My word processing program allows for unlimited pages, not three lines to write my daily thoughts. I’m a blogger, I blah, blah, blah forcing readers to scroll down to read all that comes from my thoughts and feelings. With the exception of an occasional haiku, all my poems are often epic in length, so there is no way to fit them on the allotted three lines of a 5-year page.Did you keep a diary? Do you remember your first one? I read The Diary of Anne Frank and begged for a diary for my tenth birthday. I kept diaries for years. Diaries were my best friend on some of those dark nights. So holding this little book, that one can imagine was discovered in the library at Pemberley, makes me smile. Fortunately, I felt like grumbling about the dark of the moon so was able to put that into three sentences. I wonder what I will think next year when I see the entry under today’s date and write something else. Maybe it will be in praise of the new moon and I will wallow in the synchronicity evident in a 5-year journal.

This 5 year journal is fun. With only 4 lines to write on per day, the journaling pressure is off! I write about whatever I want, whether it is what I did that day, the weather, the world, what I am reading, or a comment on the Jane Austen quote at the top of the page. If I can't think of anything to write, the Jane Austen quote on the top of the page will give me something to write about. My sister's name was Jane and that makes this journal special. I think it will be very interesting to review in 5 years' time. This would make a great gift, especially for book readers.

I purchased 2 of these 5 year journals, one for myself and one for my sister after she graduated with her Bachelors. The book is beautiful with a gold page lining and for each day you get about 4 lines to write in a quick summary. All together it is a cute little book to keep in your night stand to summarize your days events for 5 years. The cons on the book are its size, its literally no bigger than my hand and though some of the reviews comment on the binding being tight in the middle and making it a little harder to write in towards the binding, this I personally don't see as a problem. The page is cute and has a Jane Austen quote at the top and 5 different lines for you to add the last 2 digits of the year and about 4 lines per day/year to make a quick summary of your day. All in all it is a cute book and I enjoy that it has Jane Austen in it and allows me to read her work daily, but I do hate how small the diary is. I received a 5 year journal that was the size of a normal diary back when I graduated high school and I was hoping this was the same size... it was not. But if you love Jane Austen and dont mind the mini size, I recommend this product!

This IS a small book as noted in some other reviews, but that's part of its charm. It's just the right size to tuck into a nightstand or travel case. There is enough room for a summary of a day, definitely not the entire story. I bought it to give to my granddaughter on her 13th birthday. The 5 year diary will carry her thru her 18th year, recording & reflecting the joys & heartaches of being a teenager.

Smaller than expected. However it is a really beautiful journal. The back came with this sticker and I panicked thinking those annoying remains of the sticker would not come off but I only needed to scratch the leftovers with my finger nail. I just finished my last 5 year journal and was hunting for another one. Glad I decided on this one as it is truly pretty and compact enough I can take with me on over night trips so I can still jot down thoughts and events from the day.

I read the reviews and considered several of the daily 5-year, a few lines a day journals before purchasing this one. I am happy with the journal, it is small, but that makes it portable, especially if you travel. The book is a nice quality, the bookmark is a plus, and the pages are substantial enough. What I like most is that each page has a different quote - yes - 365 different quotes. None of the other 5-year journals I could find had that. I went back and ordered a second for a gift. As usual with Amazon Prime, both arrived promptly and in excellent condition.I recommend this journal.

Didn’t realize you’re reflecting on a quote each day as opposed to writing a diary entry. And also way too small.
