Useful book for a natural plant dyer. Plain no nonsense presentation.

well wtitten and easy to follow.

I'm really pleased that I bought this book. I wouldn't recommend it for dyers who are just starting out because it's a historical text and a bit fusty for a practical guide. Instead I would recommend Kristin Vejar's Modern Natural Dyer. But I would recommend this book to someone like myself who has spent a few months working with natural dyes, harvesting plants, and experimenting because you'll then have the foundational knowledge to understand what the author saying. One of my favorite things about the book is the author's honesty about how difficult it is to harvest or make certain colors like red. It helped me to feel like I was on the right track about several colors and I learned more about processing wool as well.

This is good background reading but because it is centuries old it uses materials we would not today
