My new favorite Sci-fic series
Well paced story. Conner Gates isn't perfect so he is a more realistic hero, but he is also is also a decent guy. He is forced into a situation beyonf his will or control, and there is absolutely no going back. Since his experience is military, he sets about training a search and rescue team that is up to the challenges on his new home. There is a good mix of humor and action, and I thought that even when the non-life and death stuff was happening, the story moved at a pace that kept me interested in what was happening. These books would make great movies.

thank you
I appreciate you writing the book. Great read and very enjoyable. The concepts and descriptions helped me see the different world or how things could be on a different planet. I am moving on to book 2.

Quality Sci-Fi
Quality writing, a good story, and enough to make me want to read the next one. Will definitely read more from this author.

Great story
Loved the way it was written. It is as advertised a book that you cannot put down until it is over. Will follow the story along. Great book for some fun and mind opening ideas.

Good Enough for Me
I wouldn't call this book my most favorite book ever, but I did enjoy it. I also can't really find anything bad to say about it, which is kind of unusual, lately. There weren't any glaring errors in grammar. I enjoyed a lot of the characters. There were some that grated on me like they grated on the main character, but I think that was what the author wanted.Thinking about all of the information that is thrown at us about the world, I am impressed with how it is handed to us. There weren't really any boring segments that through me out of the story.I liked the Rylaks and could kind of visualize what they were. I guess I could kind of sense where some of the plot was going, but like I said that just means this book wasn't qualified as my most favorite book ever. Still good enough to binge, I think.

Great Sci-Fi Story For Anyone Who Loves The Mysteries of A New World
As an adult, I decided I wanted to try reading more books, but have always struggled to find stories that kept my interest. Syfy is my favorite genre in pretty much all things, and I've tried a few different book series, but none really kept me coming back. That changed when I started reading First Colony: Genesis. This book checked all the boxes that I wanted and ones I didn't even know that I wanted. Ken does a great job of combining space exploration, military combat/topics, and ancient mysteries all into one story.I've played/watched more sci-fi related games and TV shows than I can count, but reading through Genesis, I found the story very fresh and different from lots of other sci-fi narratives that I've come across. I'm typically one to be able to predict where a movie or TV show or general story is headed, but 90% of the time whenever I think I know where Ken has his story heading, I get thrown a curveball and it goes in a direction I hadn't considered, which is one of the things I love most about the series (I'm on book 8 now).Another thing I think is great about the series is that I feel it's perfect for people who are just looking for a fun read. The stories told across the first colony series don't try to be earth-shattering or pose existential questions about humanity, ect. like some others do. While the story does have its moments where characters have to deal with hard choices and morality, it does a good job of staying in the realm of excitement and mystery. As for criticisms for Genesis, I didn't really find anything wrong with it as a casual reader. The one thing I can maybe say is that I did seem to notice that the word "latent" was used quite a bit throughout the book lol. But maybe that was just something that stuck out to me, I don't recall anything like that happening in the rest of the books though.I plan to keep reading this series until he stops writing them, and I hope you will like them enough to as well!(Physical quality of the books is great and seems to be print on demand, as the books I purchased seem to have been printed in my city on the same day that I ordered it from Amazon, which is cool)

well worth reading....but some flaws
I am going to talk about the whole set of 8 books in this review, rather than talking about each book. The series had a lot of promise and I loved the first book: lots of suspense, mystery, a new world to explore and new animals to encounter. However, the rich promise of the first volume was watered down book after book in the series. Very little time spent on the potential of interacting/training the local fauna, no delving at all into the plant life, and an increasing amount of time spent on the description of the space ships. Books 2 and 3 with the military battles could have been condensed into one volume. (although if that is your thing, then you might love the direction the author takes). I often look back at the model of the original TV Star Trek as a template for keeping a story going. Small group of main characters that we got to know very well, with a different adventure in every show. Unfortunately these First Colony books added too many characters and the plots thinned out as the volumes went on. I ended up not really caring what happened to the peripheral characters by the end of the series. And, spoiler alert: Volume 8 is not the end of the series, even though it had been sold as a set. I won't be reading any follow up books in this series for the reasons that I stated above, but I certainly would be willing to try reading other books by this author. Regarding the treatment of characters, especially women, the author didn't do too badly. The men were diverse and likable and capable of change. The women, although brave and sassy and smart, were often defined by how beautiful and alluring their hair was. This is a step up from male SF authors and their obsession with long legs, but still speaks of objectifying.
