...if you grew up as a kid in Michigan this is a great way to take a quick trip down memory lane. I left Michigan at 24 to return to California where I was born however, Vernor's was a part of my formative years. I still pick up a single serve bottle/can whenever I visit Michigan.

Fun and light book to read
Great book about Vernor's soda which was interesting to read. Nice graphics. Easy read. I liked the included timeline and historical facts. Nice light topic. I've never tried Vernors but I will now.

Love it
Born and raised in Detroit with Vernor's being the main sweetened beverage (except for an occasional Faygo). Good for the tummy when warmed too.

Three Stars
A bit too heavy on things that are not interesting and too light on history.

Vernors of Michigan since 1866
This is a nice 136 page book on the history of Vernor's, a soda company from Michigan that has made ginger soda pop since 1866. I like "Vernor's", and drink it all the time. The advertising campaign is a neat slice of Americana. I really enjoyed the vintage art and photos. Just in case you do not know what the heck Vernor's is... It is a terrific ginger soda pop. Vernor's is a regional soda, and there are many areas of the country you can't find it in. They may be selling it in glass bottles again soon, at least there is a page that says so the day I am writing this comment. Search at Amazon for ASIN: B001JK2SEG to see what I mean. If you look at the can it is actually called ginger soda instead of ale and is different than typical ginger ale in taste. Vernor's has a strong vanilla presence, is smoother and more moist, and sweeter than a ginger ale. It is closer to a cream soda than ginger ale, very good. A ginger ale is more dry, higher in carbonation, and has a spicier bite to it. Vernor's has 39 grams sugar per can, versus 33 grams per can for Schweppes Ginger Ale. Neither has caffeine. The recipe has changed a bit over the years mostly in the choice of sweeteners. They use the same high fructose corn syrup that the cost cutting mega soda companies use, rather than the cane sugar they used to use. The down side to that is that the corn syrup syrup drowns out some of the flavors. Many microbrews are using cane sugar again, although it costs more, to get a better taste. Vernor's is still aged in oak barrels for 3 , no doubt accounting for the smoothness. All in all a great soda for anytime. The soda is also known, like other ginger drinks, for its use as a home remedy for an upset stomach.Vernor's has quite a history, and there another book at Amazon about the soda, "Vernor's Ginger Ale (Images of America: Michigan)" ISBN-10: 0738551856.

telling her it would make her feel better. So for my birthday one year
I grew up in Michigan drinking Vernor's, but moved out of the area once I joined the military, and now live in Northern Virginia. I married a Southern gal and had told her about this ginger soda drink I had grown up with when she had complained one day that her stomach hurt, telling her it would make her feel better. So for my birthday one year, she went to the local Giant supermarket and put in an order for a 12-pack to be shipped to the store. Greatest wife ever, right?! Well, that was about three years ago now, and the Giant continues to carry the original and diet versions. There have been times I've stopped in to buy a 6-or-12 pack, and they've been soldout. The book is a must-have for anyone that enjoyed or continues to enjoy this awesome beverage!

Vernor`s history
Being born in Detroit, I grew up with this drink. Passed the old bottling plant on Woodard Avenue and even stopped in a time or two. A must have if I`m under the weather or the stomach needs settling. And a `Boston Cooler` is great. This book does an excellent job of covering all thing`s Vernor`s.
