A must have reference book
Jay Dickman and Jay Kinghorn are wonderfully talented men. This book is an inspiration and I found, a necessary technical text to have in my, library as a reference. It has taught me post capture skills in photoshop and lightroom and about equipment and accessories for in camera work. It is a book for the serious amateur and those looking for advanced, in camera and post capture technique. Jay Dickman gives wonderful insight into the power of photography and the techniques that help to make it so. His Images are inspiring and make you want to go discover the world and do a better job photographing it! He gives great advice in dealing with people, as well as equipment, technique, some amazing ways to use lighting and how to shoot some zany situations, I was awe struck by his police car shot and how he accomplished it, amazing! you certainly learn how the pros do it! Jay kinghorn gives step by step instruction into post capture, in Lightroom and Photoshop. You will learn about colour management, the art of printing, editing, file types, image resolution, creating great black and whites and much, much more! I found this book informative and inspiring, it's not a book to sit and read from cover to cover in one hit, its an inspiring text book and a must have, for me anyway, as a guide, reference and inspiration!

PERFECT DIDGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
I recommend this Book Very Highly - Whether your a beginner or advanced, you'll find this book extremely helpful, as well as giving you many of the "Ah Hah's!" you want/need... I hasten to add that I have only read only read the first 80 pages, but already it has explained a lot of those things I was unsure about & more regarding 'Digital Photography'... By the way, I'm no Expert, however I have been doing photography for over 37 years (mainly 35mm & 6x6cm Film) and would rate myself as an experienced amatuer. I have completed an intensive Camera Club Course, read Umpteen Photography Books (mainly the 35mm kind) & Camera Mag's and would rate this book as the Best I have read so far... I hope that's of help to anybody (like me) who is looking to improve their photographic skills, knowledge & understanding...Larry Finn (Australia)

This is an excellent starting book for photography.
I learned how to take photos using shutter speed, aperture and f- stops. I Learned how to approach people respectfully but inviting. Adding interest to phots be adding foreground, middle ground and back ground. I would read this agin and refer back to it in the future.

favorite digital photo text
this is my favorite digital photography book that I have found. I teach digital photography and find this book to be praise-worthy. the two Jay's are genuinely talented photographers, so the images are way above what has been acceptable in textbooks for far too long. the updated digital info is great, in fact I like their LR instructions better than the LightRoom-only book that I purchased. There is a lot of technical information in here, but above that there is an understanding that the technical is there so that you can use the camera. It is a beautiful and motivating book. Not great for the absolute beginner, better for someone that has some knowledge of photography, or is transferring over from film.

Over-Rated by People
I heard a lot of raving comments about this book before I bought it; however, after having read half of it, I came to the conclusion that this book failed to give anybody any help to improve their photographic skills. The author fills the book majnly by vague and meaningless paragraphs on irrelevant topics. For example, in the chapter on composition, the author talked about 'tension', but he never gave a clear definition of 'tension' in photography or painting. And on the traveling photography chapter, on " how to find subjects to photograph", the author literally said nothing helpful on the topic.Furthermore, almost all the photos in the book are boring, not appropriately exposed, or missing a clear subject. I highly recommend looking for a book store that has this book and just skim through so you'll see what I'm talking about.Last but not least, the author talks way too much about his workshop. I paid for this book as a reference, as a studying material; NOT as a paid-by-consumer commercial. Bragging about your workshop in a book you write yourself is a shame in my opinion. In conclusion, I don't recommend anybody to buy this book, either you're just starting to shoot or you have years of experience -- you won't learn anything from it.

All the I had hoped for and more.
This book was all that I had hoped for, and more. Just the right combination of detailed information and common sense encouragement. Love it! Range of info is from beginner through semi-pro. I will be able to reference it for many things, for a long time as I graduate in photography experience. Also includes "how to" info on editing software, but more importantly, it tells you WHY certain steps are recommended, and still leaves room for what works best on your individual level.

Beautiful book. Limited Audience
This is an excellent book for beginning photographers. I thought that might be the case when I ordered it but the I was uncertain by the description. I still learned a couple of things. But, it is well written. Great examples. Beautiful images. Nicely put together.

Great reference book!
I like this book a lot, but am disappointed that most if not all the examples and detailed explanations are geared toward Mac computers rather than PC's. Since I have a PC, the book isn't as helpful as I had hoped it would be in learning Lightroom 3--which does have a bit of a learning curve!

Perfect Digital Photograpy
Not a book for the beginner, quite laboured in places, many of the photographs were extremely dark but I suspect they were taken like that. Lots of information about his trips and awards. The use of light was almost the basis of the book, and the second part regarding the use of Adobe was only for advanced photographers, not for users of P.S.Elements although of course many of the applications in the CS programs could be utilised for Elements The book as a whole is very well presented but as I stated at the beginning, in my opinion it is not a book for beginners and in retrospect it was not intended for beginners. it is a biggish book and well printed
