Time Out Milan (Time Out Guides) Paperback – Folded Map, January 13, 2015

This takes the cake as the travel guide (of the moment) for Milan. I also used the DK Eyewitness and the Wallpaper guide, but this handsome little volume put them both to shame. (Lonely Planet only has an abbreviated guide for Milan and the lakes that wasn't highly recommended by other Amazon users, so I forewent that guide altogether.)Not only is this guide full-color and chock full of beautiful photographs, it covers all the basic tourist sites (with up-to-date, practical visitor information and side bars on Italian history and culture), but it includes a lot of recent cafés, restaurants, shops, and events that the other guides don't even come close to mentioning. It's organized by neighborhood, and was clearly written by a native English-speaker who knows how to write for English-speaking audience. (I'm convinced the DK Eyewitness guide was translated from Italian. I read it cover to cover and learned nothing; it's an impenetrable maze of names of artists and architects and dates. AHH!)If you purchase only one guide for Milan, I recommend TimeOut—especially if you're young, on the go, and interested in the Milan of today, as well as historical Milan. It was published a few years ago, and remains pretty relevant now. I'd guess this book will probably remain fresh enough to be an enormously useful resource on a visit to the city through 2017?

Very detailed book with great recommendations! Have used Time Out Guides in other cities we've traveled to, and the Milan edition didn't disappoint!

Everything you need to know, clearly laid out - Love all the Time Out guides, especially when traveling with my teenagers, it makes me look very hip and worldy

I swear by Time Out guides, and this did not disappoint. Information on sights, restaurants, bars etc. is informative and comprehensive, as are the maps. I particularly liked two improvements: 1) sights and restaurants/bars are now contained in the same section, rather than then being in separate sections. This helps when planning. 2) sights are now numbered (I haven't seen this before) - again, this is really useful for planning and locating.
