Mein Leben Fur Irland
R**F
Good film in its own right.
Yes, it's a "Nazi movie," but as anti-Brit propaganda no different than "The Informer," "Michael Collins," "In the Name of the Father," or other pro-IRA films. The storyline is taken from Tolstoy's "Taras Bulba," where a Cossack chief's son is raised as a Pole in Warsaw only to discover his real heritage and destiny. This version is set against the Irish "Troubles of '21", and ends in a highly effective combat montage - one of the best on film. Its now-corny aspects are merely in keeping with the era of filming. Ironic, though, in that the underground refugees depicted here had real-life German counterparts in the country of filming: mirrored in anti-Nazi British films that long ignored Ireland.
