Much better than trying to remember to take my reading glasses into stores.
I started needing reading glasses for labels, etc about 5 years ago.I almost always forget to take a pair of reading glasses with me when I go shopping, to doctor appointments where they want you to fill out all those forms, etc.I put a pair in my car for that reason but still have only remembered to take them into the store one time.I decided to get these, one for my wallet, one I gave to my mother for her purse, as she forgets to take her glasses into stores too.It works great. If there's something I want to see the fine print on I just pull this out of my wallet and can read without having to hold the item far way from my eyes as I can get, which most of the time makes the words so small even though they are in focus now they are too small to read. OR WORSE... having to ask someone that works there or a younger person: "What does this say?" ..so embarrassing.. I think anyway. On the really fine print the 6x "spot lens" on this works fantastic.

Useful product
This isn't a replacement for a pair of reading glasses at all, but it fits perfectly in a credit card slot and makes a great backup magnifier. The sleeves that come with it are a nice touch.

Does work as a firestarter with direct sunlight and patience
I purchased these as a lightweight and compact solar fire starter for my emergency kit. They do pack away great and come with a little soft plastic protective sleeve so they don't get surface scratches, but they are flexible and could bend/snap if you don't pack them away properly.I took one of these out in the field to test as a firestarting lens. Let me tell you, it took about 5 minutes under very direct and clear sunlight to get some dry/fine tinder lit into a flame. Be patient, get your 90 degree angle to the sun, and focus very securely and you will get a point of heat hot enough to light up some quality tinder. As a backup, this should work. I still prefer using a ferro rod and striker for much easier firestarting. This also doubles as a magnifying glass when I'm using topo maps. I have great vision and usually don't need magnification, but at least this is a dual-purpose item in my pack.

Works well as a magnifier, until it breaks!
As a magnifier, it works quite well. I was drawn to this particular product because of the higher magnification "dot" in the corner of the lens. I like to keep a magnifier in my first aid kits (cars, hiking, etc). The problem with this product is not that it doesn't work for what it's designed to do (magnify) - it's great at that. However, the durability is poor, as others have clearly noted. There are many types of plastic; some are quite flexible, others are quite brittle. Unfortunately, they made this item out of the "wrong stuff." Something like this, meant to be put into a wallet or other small spaces (like a first aid kit) that may flex, get dropped, squished into backpacks, etc., should be made out of a flexible material. This item is made out of a very brittle plastic which cracks way too easily for what it's meant for. I recently had to use one of the ones I'd bought to examine a cut that my daughter had received. I pulled it out of my kit and it had shattered at some point during storage (that being in a first aid kit sitting in a seat back pocket in our car; hardly traumatic. I might be able to accept heat damage, but looking at other reviews, I have to conclude that the material is wrong). While the largest piece of it worked for what it was intended (so I'm giving it 3 stars), it was disappointing to have found it shattered. I just tossed the pieces after I'd used them. Beware if you're buying it for the purpose I did. If you're just going to carry it loosely in your pocket, or sit it on a shelf, maybe it'll be fine. But I do not think that the material is appropriate for what it's really designed for.

Better than reading glasses.
Works as intended. They are somewhat brittle and will crack with heavy use. Other than that, no issues.

Too Limber, Too High A Magnification
I have a little slide out magnifier that a bank was giving away. It's probably a 2X. It's just getting a little cloudy from sliding in and out of a plastic case it came with. I wanted a replacement. The plastic of this item is way too limber. If you're trying to read a 2" sentence of a magazine paragraph, it wants to focus on two words, if that. You can't hold this straight! Even if you bend it in a concave or convex shape you're always left out of focus. I have a hard enough time keeping context understood w/o the hassle of constantly moving the magnifier around. Just keep this in mind for what you want it for.

Loved by folks at a Nursing Home where they can check them out to read/Bingo or whatever!
Clarity is great. For beginners, this magnification’ is easy to manage. After they get past that ‘stage’ of fluency….I may provide some higher 5x (hand helds) …The staff/I have to figure out what’s best!! Maybe a combo of solutions.
