Not Predictable at All
My boyfriend suggested we watch this and I was not disappointed. I feel like a lot of movies I've seen recently are predictable; I can see the ending coming and that makes them boring. This one kept me hooked from start to finish. I won't say anymore so as to not spoil it.Simply put, not what I was expecting from Adam Sandler but impressed and will watch again.

Liked this Sandler
I never cared for Sandler movies never thought he was really funny. When I saw the previews I liked him as this dramatc character. Die hard fans were not kind in reviews. Opposite for me. I watched, understood the dramatics and the ending was very clear why it happened. In the end winning had nothing to do with the result. What led up to that point did. Sometimes you get fed up and just break. Different people handle breaking points in different ways. Sad but ending was understandable if you watch and pay attention.

Awesome movie!
I watched this when it was in Theater and wanted the dvd to add to my Adam Sandler collection. This is such a good movie and Adam’s character is so well played that he seems real. Adam deserved an award for this one.

One of the Best of 2019!
Not what I was expecting, but damn impressive, nonetheless. From the gorgeous, albeit surprising opening—seeing through the black opal and transitioning into Howard’s colonoscopy cam—to the ending scene, showing the full circle of the life of a “gem.” with violence used sparingly as a storytelling tool, a soundtrack with such strong atmosphere that it wouldn’t let your eyes stray from the screen, and actors portrayals being so real, this film was one to lose yourself in.Howard’s character was so believably narcissistic that I’m not entirely sure I’ll be able to stomach seeing the film a second time. His seeming inability to look anyone in the eyes and speak to them face-to-face—have a legitimate conversation. And his inability to sit still and focus on one single task at a time—even when everything is quite obviously escalating, leaves you with literal stomach clenching stress and anxiety. Something Howard seems incapable of feeling.I’m sure that after more thought/ruminating some inconsistencies or faults with the film will come to mind—but first glance shows nothing but praise for this one.Adam Sandler rocked his roll so hard. Same goes for Idina Menzel, Julia Fox, Lakeith Stanfield, and Eric Bogosian.___________________________________Critical enjoyment? 4.5/5Personal enjoyment? 4/5Probability of rewatch? 2/5Extra notes? Colonoscopy footage, probable NPD rep, high stress situations/possibly anxiety-inducing. Also a couple of highly graphic/gory scenes.

Guess my life ain't so bad
This is one intense drama, yet like "Glengarry, Glen Ross," it's a must see for film aficionados. Stellar acting. Not to be preachy, but it's also a good lesson about the horrors of greed and personal addictions.Adam Sandler nailed it as one miserable, not very likable person who's brought most of his problems onhimself.

Disappointing
If this had been the first Safdie movie I'd seen, I wouldn't be that interested in seeing other Safdie movies. However, Good Time and Heaven Knows What are such brilliant and original movies, that I continue to be interested. Uncut Gems is a little too long and a little too flat. The acting isn't bad, but it's pushed, a little forced. It feels like they were trying too hard. It just doesn't flow. It isn't compelling. And it's not really funny. Good Time and Heaven Knows What are insanely great. Uncut Gems, not so much.

It’s a gritty look into one’s life
I’ve read other reviews and those people were angry because this movie is too real for them. I don’t agree with those bad reviews, I enjoyed this movie. Adam Sandler was very different and I like different. He portrays a really bad sports gambler who is flawed just like everyone else is in this world. I like funny man Adam Sandler, but to see him in this role was so cool for me. If you’re into gritty, raw realism you might like it. If not, oh well everyone is different.

Brilliant and Uncomfortable to Watch
Absolutely a tragic figure. Adam Sandler's character is impossible to dislike, even when he engages in dishonest and disloyal (to family) activity. You WANT him to win although you know that in the end he simply cant beat the impossible stacked bets he has placed - even if he seems to finally win. His voice is one of aggravation and constant agony; much like the slow bending of steel in a car crusher. To call this a 'house of cards' is to understate the delicate schemes the character has created to stay ahead of the previous lost-bet and dubious debt collectors who seem to be constantly at his heels. Watch this without reading a synopsis. It is as heartbreaking as any tragedy made by Thomas Hardy.
