Fake Bake Xtreme Darkest Self-Tanning Gel, 5-Ounce

I used to be addicted to indoor tanning beds and laying in the sun. I have done some damage to my skin and had to wise up and stop tanning both indoors and out. Thus lead me on a 4 year search for self tanners. Many of which turned me orange; I have what I call extreme fair/dry skin! After two years of settling for an orange hue, this is the second summer that I have purchased Fake Bake products. This year I thought I would try the gel but I still bought the lotion just in case. I am glad I did. Before I get to what I didn't like the one thing I loved is how quickly it dried, I didn't have to wait long to get dressed. However; when I did get dressed and into bed my clothes stuck to my body. The gel left my legs streaky. On my inner thighs and on the underside part of my arms where its lighter and not prone to exposure it developed into a grey color after I showered off the color guide. The color (not counting the grey spots) still developed nicely but I didn't like the streaks and greyness. I will not be using this gel again. While I may be disappointed in the gel, I am still extremely happy about the lotion and will continue to buy it.

This stuff is pretty amazing as far as self tanners go. I've tried several different brands and Fake Bake is by far the best for me. I used to be an avid tanning bed user and sun 'worshipper', but because of all the skin cancer dangers I've decided to go the sunless route. I am part Cherokee but I'm naturally pretty pale and the color from Xtreme is gorgeous and totally natural -- absolutely NO orange, which is probably why some people complained about the 'greenish' brown color of the gel out of the tube (green cancels out orange). The greenish brown color is only part of the color guide that helps show you where you've put the gel. That brings me to my next point: some people have commented that the Xtreme gel is very streaky and it all washes off in the shower. Apparantly these people didn't read the directions. First of all, yes, the gel can be streaky when you put it on -- THAT'S THE COLOR GUIDE. I've used this stuff several times and NEVER had a problem with the final color being streaky or splotchy, no matter how sloppy I put it on. And the complaints about it washing off in the shower -- again, THAT'S JUST THE COLOR GUIDE.This stuff is a dark greenish brown gel coming out of the tube that may look a little streaky when you apply it. Do your best to get it rubbed in but don't worry if it doesn't look perfect, subtle streaking is normal (it's just the color guide) and will wash off. You'll look like you've been playing in mud when you're done applying. Just avoid leaving any big globs of the stuff on your skin for any length of time because it starts to soak in immediately. Because it is a gel, it dries really fast, which is good since you don't have to worry about getting it perfectly rubbed in. I use the FB Smoothie Spray on my hands, feet, knees, and elbows before applying Xtreme to prevent the 'dark & dirty' look in those spots, but you could probably just use a little of your regular lotion too. I recommend applying at night and sleeping in it then rinsing off in the shower the next morning. It might leave a little brown on your sheets but I have never had a problem getting it washed out of my light blue sheets and white pillow. When you shower, as with the other Fake Bake products, you'll see a lot of brown going down the drain. THIS IS NORMAL -- AGAIN, IT'S JUST THE COLOR GUIDE. If you get any on your palms it's easily scrubbed off with a pumice stone. What you're left with is a beautiful, NATURAL brown color, no orange, no green. I usually apply twice to get the dark color I want but one application will give you a noticeable, beautiful tan that will last up to a week. My ONLY complaint is that the Xtreme only comes in a 6oz. tube, and I really wish Fake Bake offered larger sizes.

Dani and Pale girl are right on. I purchased this product because of their reviews and am so glad that I did. I am also the palest girl in the world, I just burn, no matter what I do. I have been using self-tanners since they came out over 20 years ago!!! so, I have literally tried every product out there!!! In addition, I try to avoid the sun due to all the damaging rays, so this product is a lifesaver for me. Seriously, it's a night and day difference (before and after). But I do agree that you need to be experienced at applying self tanners in the past. This self tanner contains an instant dark bronzer, which helps with a smooth application and prevent streaking...but it also also makes you look like a golden goddess. If you are blessed with dark skin and/or looking for more natural and less noticeable bronzer/self tanner, this product is probably not going to be right for you. It does streak easily, but dont' worry, if this happens during application, it will not how your tan will turn out, just start out small. The instant dark color rinses right off in the shower, the self tanner will develop within 4-8 hours. You need to apply it quickly and sparingly, don't over-rub, this will start to make it streak and clump. You are better off, just leaving a slight streak alone than trying to rub it out. Once you shower, the bronziness goes away and you see the result of the self tanner which is going to be considerably lighter but still a nice result. I, like Dani, put it on during the day and am fine with it - but don't wear white, though...;o) I love it because I can put it on my real quick and become instantly dark - I get compliments all the time. I do touch ups as well daily. Yes, it does have a slight odor, but pretty minimal compared to most others and unavoidable when using any self tanner. Prior to application, I take a long shower, shave exfoliate with loofa and apply a light cote of organic lotion (no mineral oil). I have to do this because my skin is dry and the product will accentuate imperfections or spots and I find that a light coat of lotion helps with this, but this is not the case for all. I start with my legs and move my way up. I apply the lightest coat to the tops of my feet last. Once I take of the gloves I use a wash cloth or paper towel to apply a small amount to the top of each hand. If I was stranded on an island, this would be one of my top 2 luxury items!!! can't live without it!!! Thank you reviewers and thank you Fake Bake!!

I ordered this Sunless because I have used this brand for more then 3yrs. They have resently Changed their formula and packaging. So I thought because the picture is of the old formula is would be just that. It IS NOT!!! I hate the new formula I have tried now 3 bottles of it and it DOESN'T LAST AT ALL IT ISN'T ANYWHERE NEAR AS DARK!!! In fact it's like a light dust of color not even as good as what you could find at walmart!! I am currently looking fo alterntive Sunless I don't want to tan , butI want to be tan. This Product is NO LONGER ANY GOOD!! 3yrs ppl "If It Isn't Broke Don't Fix IT" That's all I gotta say...

this has being my tan of choice for many moons now and i must say i would never change to something else.i had tried many other fake tans before but i found that none of them came out dark enough. you get great gloves with this tan that should last untill the tan finishes and it is foolproof to apply (no patches).

Have had much cheaper tans and they have developed a lot darker. Wouldn't wast your money. It also clings to any uneven parts, eg, the smallest area of dry skin or lumps and bumps.

amazing tan, must know what your doing to use it as very thick but doesn't smudge its the best tan ive ever used
