This has replaced chlorine in my kitchen. I put 1 tablespoon in about a quart of cold water. It is in a plastic bottle (like a big mustard squirt bottle)n0 and I squirt a bit of the mixture into the sink when washing dishes. Also use it to clean the counters. Very effective at killing germs, and it won't turn your silverplate black like a bit of chlorine in dishwater will do. It also made really nice soap bars when mixed with some beef fat and a bunch of pig fat. The soap came out nice and formed, but makes nice, creamy lather when water is applied to the bar. I use the soap on my face as the bars were gentke on the skin. Admittedly, I had a good soap recipe to start with (my first try at soapmaking, so how lucky was that?!) This lye product works well for me so I just keep buying it.

I purchased this food grade lye in 2013 specifically for pretzel making (which I probably do twice a year). Using 2 - 4 TBS per gallon of water, this bottle will probably be a lifetime supply for me. I have tried baking soda in the past for pretzels, but the lye works so much better for achieving that typical dark brown pretzel look.I have not tried lye from any other company, but I would absolutely recommend this produce.

I know that you have to be very careful using this, but the safety procedures are easy. There is no comparison to using this vs baking soda.I have also brushed this on the top of bread rolls which gave them a nice color when baked and that great "pretzel" taste in the mouth. For a cool effect, brush the top heavy and let the solution drip down the sides.Being that the shipping cost more than the product, I am trying to find a local source. This is the only negative I have.

It is pure lye, how could it be bad, if it is what you are looking for?But seriously, safest option for septic tanks. Don't use the fancy stuff with weird additives on a septic tank. There is my two sense.

I purchased this lye for cold process soap making. It was well packaged, no lye leaked out in shipping and there was no static electricity problems with the lye jumping out of the bottle ~ I ran into this problem with a slightly cheaper brand. The lye mixed well with water and my soap has turned out perfectly! Will purchase again when I need more.

It is truly an excellent product ! ! ! !I have been trying to unclog my kitchen sink for several months, yes, you read it write, several months.Did not want to spend money on plumbers, they are VERY expensive, I wanted to do it myself. Great party trick with a little  60 ml / 2 oz 1% Phenolphthalein in Ethanol Solution pH Indicator for Titrations and pH Testing Soap Making & Biodiesel . Mix with water to make a clear solution. Put Phenolphthalein in a destination receptacle and "turn water into wine".Just don't drink it!!!

I bought this as a homemade mineral water ingredient. Haven't used it for that yet but I did use it to unclog my bathroom sink and it worked perfectly! Sodium Hydroxide is Sodium Hydroxide... no reason to review a compound. Suffice to say: this product IS that compound.
