Unbroken Will: The Extraordinary Courage of an Ordinary Man The Story of Nazi Concentration Camp Survivor Leopold Engleitner, born 1905 Paperback – December 30, 2013

I happened to stumble across this book quite by accident and I'm so glad that I did! I read it over the course of two nights and could hardly put it down because it was so gripping and fascinating, at times making me laugh and at times making me cry. It is indeed a must-read for all who would like to make this world a better place to live in for all people because it tells the life story of a man who didn't give in to the huge threats poured upon him, many actually carried out, by Hitler's Regime. And he and others like him, all Jehovah's Witnesses, held on to their religious beliefs and convictions, refusing to let go of them and remaining faithful to their God Jehovah. Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses myself I truly appreciate this book and I would recommend it to other Witnesses as a good example to follow.

In addition to moral lessons of the utmost importance, the astounding research underpinning the amazing literary work secondarily teaches some fascinating historical lessons as well. All of it was presented in an easy-to-read writing style and was paced in such a way as to maintain one’s attention while allowing the gravity, emotion, and full import of the contents to be assimilated. My only regret is not meeting Engleitner in person.

Mr Rammerstorfer, I salute you! Thank you for having the courage to do all it took to reveal the truth about the life of this brave and good man, Leopold Engleitner.For all the world has to say about tolerance and peace, no many people are willing to get down to the nitty gritty of what creates wars and what it requires of each individual to avoid becoming involved in war. Through this very detailed and honest account, the author has bought to light the issues facing every human being. I cannot do better but quote the author himself when he says: "Leopold Engleitner overcame all adversity as an example of how a positive outlook and zest for life can be maintained even in the face of the most appalling experiences.... His impressive character and courage make him a member of society worthy of emulation." Like thousands of other Jehovah's Witnesses, Leopold Engleitner followed the Bible's command to love his neighbour and even his enemies and not kill them. And he was willing to suffer the most extreme treatment, even death, in order to remain faithful to God. Except that he survived! Beautiful also is the story of the friendship of between the author and Loepold Englietner in his old age, and how Mr Rammerstorfer brought comfort and joy to him and managed to get some recognition and compensation for him so many years after the events occurred.Although the story is extremely sad, it is heartwarming to read and leaves one with a sense that justice and truth will ultimately prevail.

Br Leopold has an amazing life story and I want to be like him. As a fellow Jehovah's witness I view all the faithful Bibelforscher integrity keepers in the Nazi concentration camps as my ancestors. I am proud to be associated with them and when future tests come, I earnestly desire to show the same faith.

It was a good read. Leopold did suffer for his faith and remained true. I wondered in the end when he came to the US it mentioned many tourist sites visited plus snapshots. Most witnesses from another country would want to visit the World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses on their first visit to the US. There was no mention of such a visit. Also, in his conclusion/advice he doesn't make mention of Jehovah by name. I was left wondering if he got wrapped up in promoting the book to the exclusion of more important things. I could be completely off base but I did wonder about it. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I was disturbing but great. I'm a witness, so it portrayed what can happen within a relatively short time frame. History teaches that. So, I recommend this book.

Wonderful story about a strong brother in a weak body. As one of Jehovahs Witnesses we well know what our brothers experienced in Nazi Germany. This shows how our faith keeps us strong.

A remarkable account of a Jehovah's Witness who refused to undertake military service during the Second World War - movingly told, and a fascinating read.

Now I'm not one who reads a lot of books, but this is a tremendous story of faith and loyalty in the face of brutal opposition. The courage displayed by this man to remain true to his God is incredible when he had several opportunities to leave the camp he was in if he signed a declaration renouncing his faith but he stubbornly refused to. If anyone wants to know what true integrity is then read this book.

For anyone interested in standing up to their beliefs this book is a must read. This is a very encouraging account of a person who stood up to the Nazis because he would not compromise his faith. There are many accounts of conscientious objectors but this one has lots of details including lots of photos of people, places and personal records. You will not regret reading this account.

This is a fantastic true biography of an ordinary man who was persecuted because he refused to take the life of another human being. Brilliant read.

So inspiring! It's almost unbearable what this man was able to bear. He kept his integrity but also his individual charachter. More people should take their example from people like this. How much better the world would be!

It is a shame that humans can be so cruel to one another. Bernhard and others like him experienced so many atrocities. They aregreat examples of strength and endurance for any who may experience hardships and to never give up,because there is alwaysthe hope and possibility of it ending.

This book is like a eduction, its create what next. What happened to Enlighter in each stage. The courage he has shown is extraordinary. There is lot of learnings for all of us.Never loose your willpower.Always believe that we will succeed from all situation.Do what you think is write and everything will fall apart
