Introducing Fractals: A Graphic Guide (Graphic Guides)

Evaluation
The book choices are great. My only problem is some books I buy will not down load! I need help with those titles!

Pieces of Mystery
Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon in his book, Introducing Fractals, presents a thought provoking missive on the origins of fractal geometry. It doesn’t overwhelm with dense text. It is well written and cites critics of the assertions about fractal geometry. If a reader is interested in a concise origins and applications of fractals, I recommend this book.

Well Done - But Not Simple
Introducing Fractals - A Graphic Guide is quite well done. To truly understand fractals, however, takes quite a bit of mathematical background. The authors do an excellent job of trying to ease the reader into the required math, but the average reader without much higher math background likely will not really understand some of the material. I have an extensive background in math (though not exercised much in the last 20 years), and I still felt a tad frustrated that I was not sure I really "got it" for some of the concepts. Do I *really* understand what an attractor or repellor is? Or their significance? I think so - but do I?So if you want to understand the basic ideas behind fractals, and their significance, this is a decent intro. If you are looking for a quick, easy read, that won't require much thinking to get through, this might not be it. The nature of the material might make finding such a book a tall order.

God is a fractal
I never knew that fractals are so omnipresent in the universe. This short introduction is enlightening. I recommend it. :)

Great for beginners
I am a graduate student and was asked to participate in an outreach event for high school kids. In the event one of the topics to be presented was Fractals. I had never been formally introduced to this topic before and so I searched for introductory materials on the subject. This book has plenty of images and a great format to introduce the topic of fractals to non-scientist. It puts fractals in a historical background which I always find helpful when studying a new complex topic. I recommend as an initial guide into fractals. It is by no means deep discussion on the theoretical or practical aspects of Fractals. It does however serve the purpose of placing and explaining fractals at a basic level in a fun and visual way, excellent for developing an interest in children and the non-scientific community.

Miniature edition, not the original
This is a light overview of the history of fractals, illustrated throughout with B&W line art figures. The strength is in connecting concepts at a high level; the reader will want to look elsewhere to drill down on particular points of interest.I saw this book at the library and decided I wanted to own it. Since the library book and this one were both paperbacks, I was confident I knew what I was buying. Alas, this edition is a miniature version of the original paperback edition! The font size is perhaps 5 or 6 points large. I nearly laughed when I held it up to the screen on its Amazon page -- the book itself is barely twice the size of the "thumbnail" of the cover shown on Amazon!Good book, but save your eyes and buy a used copy of the previous edition that was printed in normal, human proportions. Maybe the Kindle edition is readable? As the picture shows, the text is about the size of the text on a coin.

Great summary of Fractals
Enjoyed the material quite a bit. Not used to graphic book format, but did enjoy that. Don't know why I was surprised by its size, probably didn't read that in description! Font a bit small, of course. Worthwhile intro!

Perfect little intro
If you are looking for a fun but also rather concise way to enter the world-less world of fractals, then you cannot beat this little treasure. I've been dealing with fractals for years and I have to say, this really will help those from pre-school --> PHD+ level (well, this may be a 'slight' exaggeration for the pre-schoolers!) Go for it.

Not really what I was expecting
Not really a book ideal for learning about Fractals as it goes into too little details about the concepts. If you're after a book that introduces the basic concepts to a child, then by all means purchase this but if you require something more academically geared, this book is not for you.

A compiled yet simplified book about fractals... WITH PICTURES!!!
I have always found the slow refining of texts to simple ones a repugnant task. This book helped me in more ways than one; not only does it provide simple, note-like texts, it includes pictures and diagrams for further comprehension. I love it.

Comic book, but serious content!
What a great intro to fractal theory (for someone like me who needs pictures!). Sadly I still don't understand it, but am enjoying trying. If anyone knows of a "Fractal Theory for Dummies" book please let me know!

Quick visual introduction into fractals.
A general introduction in a pocket book with references to the main points in fractals. A short but helpful introduction to fractals and chaos theory.

Arrived on time
The book is interesting but does not necessarily make the issue any easier to understand from the mathematical point of view.
