In a mansion on the outskirts of Seoul lives one of the richest families in South Korea. Patriarch Yoon is the president of a multinational conglomerate, but his wife Madame Baek really holds all of the power. Her personal secretary Young-Jak, a handsome young man newly introduced to the world of wealth and influence, deals with the family's immoral - and frequently illegal - activities while he awaits his own opportunity to make it rich. When Madame Baek catches her husband having an affair and exacts her revenge by seducing Young-Jak, a torrid series of intra-familial deceptions ensues in this sexy and controversial erotic thriller from South Korean master I'm Sang-soo.

I Totally Hated This Film
Underdeveloped characters with vague motivations, absurd plot twists, meandering story line - these are the primary characteristics of this film. Like most day-time drama / telenovela stories about the super rich, this film is an exercise in cliches. The interiors upstaged the action and actors by virtue of at least being consistent. The writing appeared to be awful from what was legible in the often white-on-white tiny subtitles. This film appears to have suffered from too much money spent on the signifiers of wealth rather than any real in-depth look at the inhabitants of this world. Particularly offensive was the Korean-speaking American who put in the worst acting job I have seen outside of a Warhol film, but without the fun.

I wasn't sure about this movie when I first bought it, but it turned out to be really good. This is actually a pretty good dramatic film to watch if you're interested. I'm happy with this purchase.

Money, Family and Deception
What's not to love.....once you get past the subtitles this film has everything. Particularly stunning are the sets and costumes. Everything is precisely chosen to fit the context and in works in spades.
