Q: I thought only hearing aids required fda approval, personal sound amplifiers (psap) products do not require fda approval. must be a hearing aid?

In the true sense it's not a hearing aid. Most hearing aids are build to amplify sound while blocking out back ground noise. This device just amplifies all sound. When my hearing aids needed to be repaired I bought this device and it did help. But no match for a true hearing aid.

Hard to answer about the life of this product for it is subjected to how often it us used. I find this device to be the most comfortable and longest Battery than other amplifiers in the same price range.
