Smooth transition from older 4 bay Qnap
My old Qnap failed after running 24/7 for 6 years. I just transferred the drives to this new unit and it started up without skipping a beat. I upgraded the memory to 16 Gb so Plex could run properly and all apps could update.

Straightforward setup for powerful NAS
This was straightforward to set up for someone with some experience. It's certainly not plug and play, and expects the user to have at least some technical experience. I upgraded the RAM which was a big boost - if you're doing that, make sure you're getting compatible RAM.

Works great however warranty registration issues
Before I praise QNAP for my good experience, I will point out that the seller BecTech Global imported these QNAP's from France. This means you are not eligible for the extended warranty if you purchase this in a different region (like in the USA). I opened a ticket with QNAP for more information on eligibility. Awaiting a response.I was gifted a TS-451 that was 9 years old. I used some harddrives and ram I had laying around to get it going. Then I ftp'ed all my data over. Plex setup really easily. The containers took some trial and error but I got Sonarr running and Deluge+VPN running in separate containers. Everything is great. Things are running well. After a week of smooth sailing I took down my old Linux server that was hosting Plex and didn't have any major issues.4 weeks later it stopped working. No status lights; just the fan running at full speed. I'm guessing it failed because it didn't like the random memory I had laying around instead of a recommended ram.I read that I could just take my harddrives and move them in the same sequence to another QNAP device. I didn't hesitate to order another one. It arrived and I put in my drives in the exact same sequence and started it up.EVERYTHING WAS THERE. Every single setting and configuration was in tact. I didn't have to rebuilt any of my containers, reset any passwords. Nada. It just had to do a disk check and we are back in action.I am having a minor issue that I didn't have before with Plex. When I try to download a movie or tv show to my iPad in the Plex app, it only works for m4a files. MKV files will download but never play. I'm guessing it's a transcribe issue but I never had this issue when I was running Plex on Ubuntu. All in all I am now locked into the QNAP ecosystem. I can never go back to anything else. Love the way this is setup.

QNAP TS-451D2 Failed with in a week and a half
This is for the QNAP TS-451D2. Set up of the drives was quite easy. Getting it up and running went super smooth. I spent a solid week loading all my media onto this set up. I was very excited to have this go so smooth. Was proud to have accomplished something I wouldn't have normally tried. While it was up it seemed to do every thing we wanted out of it. I had mainly bought it to use as a Plex Server for the family in the house. After a week and a half TOTAL time up it completely failed. The power supply was fine.RAM was fine.Drives were fine. The main board on the unit completely would not power up. Push the button and nothing at all happened.I had contacted QNAP for support to assist with RMA. But since there was an issue with the vendor sending me a different model number than the receipt from Amazon said they refused to help since the receipt did not match the unit name. I find this completely ridiculous as I had created the proper accounts and registered the unit on their site. They knew exactly what I had and when it was first seen on their end.I had purchased this unit from a highly recommended vendor. I will review them separately as not to pollute the product rating. I had sent the unit back to the seller to try to replace under return / exchange. I now am out the money for the unit since the seller is not doing their part. The seller intentionally ran out the clock on returns and I feel they have zero intention of helping me get back up.QNAP put me in this situation as they would not RMA the board.I can not recommend buying this unit solely based off the response from the company and how quickly it failed. In the industries I work in this is a completely unacceptable failure rate. Looking online I see similar stories of QNAP support. Sadly I will have to probably purchase another one to recover my data off the RAID 0 setup I had going. I put about 120 hours of straight time into loading data onto this unit. I do not want to lose that time.

Nice upgrade
I purchased this after my trusty QNAP TS-451+ suffered the dreaded fan failure death. Other than a couple hiccups with setup (which were totally my fault), the machine is purring along happily.Word of advice, when setting up, purchase extra RAM. This thing loves at least 8gb and it's cheap. I bought 8gb for about 60 bucks here on Amazon, as opposed to buying the 4gb version of this machine for 80 bucks more.Another tip, if you're migrating hard drives from a prior QNAP RAID, put the drives in before you power on the machine. I made the mistake of turning on the machine and then hot-swapping in the drives as I got them mounted in the new drive cages. It doesn't recognize the RAID volumes correctly. It took me 2 days of google-fu and headaches to get the data off the RAID so I could rebuild. Just don't, ok? You don't need that headache. And have backups of your backups before you do anything else.Go. Back up your stuff now!

Great value for a 4 bays NAS
No issue at all after running for few weeks. Low noise level. Work well with Seagate Ironwolf drive. However, if this is your first time using Qnap then it might take times to learn about their NAS management software (QTS). It is a powerful management tool once you get used to it.If you have basic NAS knowledge (like me), then it might take a few days to feel comfortable using QTS.
