Not very confident in the replacements
Love my kindle fire 8.9 when it was new -never had a problem. My son dropped it, we used our Service Net warranty (they were great) to get a replacement Kindle (cant get a new one because they are no longer made). Well our 1st replacement wouldnt charge, so called Service Net & was sent another replacement. The 2nd replacement wouldn't connect to the WiFi. Called Service Net, was directed to Kindle Support. Well, after an hour later with Kindle support, they told me that I needed another router. I told the representative (from India) that my router was fine due to the fact that the 8 other devices in my house had no problem connecting to my WiFi. In fact, none of my neighbors routers were even showing up on my device. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and brought the "replacement" to work. It wouldn't connect to that WiFi either. I used up my lunch hour to call Kindle Support to find out that the "replacement" software was 4 updates behind but I couldn't do the downloads at work - so would call me later at home. Got my phone call later, after another hour & half on the phone with Kindle Support, was told that the internal wifi antenna was not working so I would get another replacement. Of course, I'm skeptical but basically wanted a working Kindle. I was to receive an email with the replacement delivery date & return shipping label. Waited 2 days later, no email. Called Kindle Support again, was told that someone would call me back later today. Waited 8 hrs later, no phone call. Called Kindle Support again, told my story for the nth time, kept on the phone for 45 mins going thru this test, that test, reset and nothing. Was told that they would need to send a request to technical support to see what else can be done to get it to work and that request would take 3-5 business days!!! Really, if I needed my problem addressed by technical support, who was I talking with????? After some voice elevation....I said that I'm not waiting another 3-5 business days, I needed to talk to whomever but I was getting a replacement and I'm not waiting for technical support to tell me 3-5 business days later that it won't connect to the wifi so I can run more test!!! Finally, I would get replacement but 5 days later....this is amazon, really it would take 5 days. After some more voice elevation....I should be getting it 2 day delivery. I just can't believe that when you tell someone that your tablet (that is wireless - the main thing it does)- can't connect to wifi.....you get the run around. This is the 1st time I ever had a problem with a Kindle & i own 3 of them. I'm very disappointed Amazon....I expected much better from you!!

With Age 12 & Under Using Kindle, I am glad I got this!
I already had to use this for my 10-yr old's Kindle where the battery was dead! It would not charge or hold a charge. The only reason why I am giving this 1 less star than 5 stars is because when I called customer service,1) there was a slight language barrier and I had to ask them to repeat again but slower and2) the rep had me carefully walk through appropriate steps to check for the Kindle's operation. But then we had to leave it plugged into my computer for an hour and the representative called me back in an hour and it was late at night (my time).My fault, I called late at night right before bedtime and really didn't want to stay up a whole other hour to take his call. But I did and it ended satisfactorily with a replacement Kindle being shipped out after confirming the Kindle would not operate.

Accidents DO happen
I bought this Kindle because I had been given an old Panvision reader that after just enough to get me across the state and back, and I read three huge books in a slim case rather than in a suitcase all alone for the huge tomes. As I kept using it to go back and forth to school I saw that while I do still prefer a book, a Kindle is a great way to read when already overloaded with school textbooks.I also bought a keyboard from Another Place. Let's just say the first day I used it, my cat (not on purpose, I don't THINK) too two keys off with his claws. Luckily, I was able to replace them. But this was when I realized: accidents happen. I want to keep the knowledge that if an accident DOES happen, my investment isn't gone. A two-year plan seems just about right. I'll be ready for something else by then!I'm just glad I haven't used it yet . . .

Best Protection Plan in the Business.
A lot of Protection Plans seem to be for people who don't have Life happen to them. You know what I mean. I'm talking about plans that assume our kids are perfect angels, who would NEVER throw Mom's Kindle in the toilet -- and we would NEVER break a view screen or spill coffee at Starbucks or drop our Tablet whist picking up our Service Dog. Those plans aren't Service Net Plans.I haven't had to use this Protection Plan, but I know people who have. (How do you think I know about toddlers, Kindles, and toilets?) Because of the great Word of Mouth, I didn't hesitate to buy Protection Plans for both of my Kindles.Accidents Happen. And if one happens, I have confidence that my Kindle Fire HD Tablet will be Protected -- even if I should drop said Kindle Fire HD Tablet in my Service Dog's water bowl.Don't let your own Kindle venture out into the Big Wide World -- or even on to the World Wide Web -- without the blanket of safety provided by a good case and this Protection Plan.

Over priced insurace. for the 8.9" HD Tablet
Service Net is a unit of AIG, the mega insurance company that required over $180 billion in federal rescue funds during the financial crisis (In fairness, all paid back with profit to the government.) Say you order a Kindle Fire HD tablet with 16 GB without ads for $244. If you also buy the Service Net insurance for about $80, here is what you get. You only have an additional year of coverage against manufacturer defects (dead battery, other power failures, etc) plus two years of accident coverage (my daughter dropped it in the toilet, etc.). The insurance will be 32% of the cost of the tablet or an insurance premium equivalent to 16% a year in terms of the Kindle price. Here are two comparisons. The new 7" HDX tablet with 16 GB and no ads cost the same as the HD 8.9" $244. The 2 year accident insurance from Square Trade for this particular tablet is $55 or an insurance premium of a little over 11% a year, still high. My $1000+ laptop has a 3 year Square Trade accident insurance policy that cost only $99 or an insurance premium of about 3.3% a year. Are the Kindle Fire tablets more prone to breakdowns because of quality issues? Are they more prone to accidents than laptops? Maybe. But the Service Net insurance at $80 for the Kindle Fire HD appears too high relative to the coverage you receive.
