Faulty Design with Ledlenser P5R Core - Check Yours!
I was expecting great things from the PR5 Core as I’d owned 4 other Ledlenser torches over the years which were Amazing. This one arrived with the focus ring stuck. When it eventually came free it’s twisted/creased a rubber membrane within the outer circumstance of the focusing ring. You can see it in one of the photos. You can also see what looks like fingerprints/dirt within the lens glass. I contacted Ledlenser customer services, but they just denied the problem and suggested I return it to Amazon for a replacement or refund. I’ve decided for a refund as I had a similar problem with a head torch from the same brand a week ago which I ended up having to return - The focusing ring also kept on getting stuck with it and damaged the rubber membrane. Personally, I think this is a known problem with these new generation of Ledlenser torches which they’re denying there’s a problem with. I would check your lens by switching it off and shining a different light into the outer edge of the lens to see if your rubber membrane is also creased? I first noticed it when I shone the light against the wall and saw that the outer perimeter of the light wasn’t circular, but more like a square (See photo). This is due to the creased rubber membrane. I believe the creasing occurs when the focusing ring gets stuck and is then released under pressure (which is the only way to release it). The more people that complain to Ledlenser about it, the more likely they’ll fix the problem. If your membrane is creased I believe it may also not be waterproof. Please checks yours!

Not as good as I hoped
The P5R Core feels and looks well made. It is not the first or only LED Lenser torch I own so I am in part comparing it to the others. For me the biggest disapointment is the beam throw. The P5R Core does not focus to a tight enough spot, compared to my P7 and P5. Because of this the usable illumination fades out at probably less than 50m. The twist to focus head action is not as easy to operate as you might think and often needs a second hand. The push/pull focus on the P7 and P5 is easy to operate with the same hand you are holding the torch with. Multi mode torches can be more fuss than it is worth sometimes, I just don't use all the fancy stuff but you have to be careful and momentarily patient when pressing the power switch otherwise you can accidentally put the torch into another mode. The special charging connection rather than a standard USB helps to keep the torch waterproof but it's also another separate cable you have to have. I am happy with the overall brightness, although turbo mode makes virtually no visible difference to usable illumination throw compared to the factory "high" setting. Battery life is what I expected considering output and battery size/capacity.

Very Disappointed, Unit not fit for purpose - focus keeps jamming
I would have returned this unit immediately as it seemed impossible to get the focus to turn at all. It was only as I read another review that commented on how hard the focus could be to turn that I tried again with a bit more force, and it finally turned. It was fine in use, but every time I do not use the torch for a few days the focus sticks again and it is very hard to turn.I'm now returning the unit for a refund. I had been planning to buy a P7 but this has put me off this brand as it is certainly not cheap. It would seem that relying on brand name for quality didn't work for me in this case.

Poor battery life
Purchased for winter dog walking.Initially it had reasonable battery life.Using it for 25-35 minutes every day on the second to brightest setting.First two or three weeks had to charge once a week. Then twice a week.Unfortunately now I have to charge three or even four times a week. For the price of this I expected better performance. My other half use’s a battery powered torch, I can carry a spare battery for when that runs out, but obviously not for the led lenser.I think it would be better to buy two cheaper torches and have a fully charged spare in your pocket.

Ultimate carry torch
This is a neat high quality professional torch. It ticked all the boxes, 500 Lumens, waterproof, dust-proof, feels robust, rechargeable and can be a floodlight or a focussed spotlight.Best of all...it's got a seven year warranty.I've added a photo of it mounted to a safety helmet (brackets/mounts available separately).
