Amazing. Doesn’t leak if you are strong enough to use it properly.
Whoever said the spout leaks didn’t clamp it down properly. It’s not seated when it’s tight, it’s seated when you push the latch all the way home. Put your back into it. I was so sick of plastic crap containers with screw tops that tear the seals, and replacing them every year and garbage quality latching nozzles that bend and break. I drove around with this in the car for an hour and a half after filling it and never smelled gas at all. The nozzle is stiff to use but that’s because you’re only gonna put gas where you’re trying to. It doesn’t leak or pee gas all over your fingers. It does cough up some fuel if you open it recklessly but just be gentle, rock it back and tap it on the ground first.Exactly what I wanted. It even fills faster than the plastic one because the height keeps the sloshing fuel away from the filler nozzle. Cannot recommend this enough. The gaskets will go out eventually but keep them lubed and keep some spares on hand. This is a fantastic product.

Thank God I found this and a good replacement spout, updated
Thank you to our wonderful government for making it nearly impossible to find a gas can that is actually usable. As you can guess, and quite probably why you are looking at this review now, I was looking for a usable gas can. You can no longer get a cheap plastic gas can that doesn't have a child proof spout which makes it pretty much unusable for lawn equipment, and I wouldn't even use one for my car. This Jerry can saved the day when used in conjunction with a NATO Long-Nose Flexible Jerry Can Spout/Nozzle, Fits Wavian or VALPRO NATO Euro Military Spec Cans (Olive Drab). The Jerry can comes with a Child proof spout, but you can take that spout off and use the replacement spout which is just a plain old flexible spout. I didn't want to spend this much, but this is the way I had to go to get around what our government did in its infinite wisdom. The replacement spout does not fit the plastic spout holder riveted to the Jerry can. But that spout comes with a replacement plastic holder. I have not done this yet, and may not because I find it convenient just leaving them next to each other in the garage, but you can drill out the rivet and then using a small bolt, you can mount the replacement plastic holder onto the can.Note: using the Jerry can and replacement spout, I have not spilled any gas, no leaks, not even a gas smell in the car when bringing a newly filled can back home from the gas station. Not even my old plastic can before the child proof laws were passed worked this well. When I filled my old can, I had to keep it in the trunk or drive with the windows open. The Jerry can is air and liquid tight. However, as the seasons change, I would suggest periodically popping it open to equalize the air pressure inside the can. After using this for a while, I still like this can. However, it really needs a handle on the side or bottom. Trying to hold this at an angle to pour gas into the lawn mower, snow blower, etc., it gets heavy while waiting for the transfer of gas to complete. I find that I often have to stop for a minute or two to reposition my hands. But even with this minor issue, this can still beats the heck out of those new Leak Proof cans when used with the replacement spout I mention above.

High quality and well built.
Very nice quality and comes with a detachable nozzle. Solidly built from steel. The last gas can you’ll need to buy unless you need more for extra capacity.

Great jerry can - poor spout
the jerry can itself was 5 stars. seals perfectly, locks in place so no odor or leakage. The included spout on the other hand was a complete failure. it would not lock in place so it leaked with every attempt to pour.

Fantastic, no exploding, no smell.
I wanted to write a quick review to address some questions I had before I bought this. Unlike most reviewers, I guess, I wasn’t driving Jeeps on the western front in the 40s, so I have never had the chance to see this type of container in use.1. If you have a newer car with the no gas-cap type of port, the filler this comes with will fit in absolutely perfectly, and it will WORK perfectly. If you’re not planning on filling a car with gas, forget it — you need to buy one of the other nozzles that are compatible with this. I’m only using it for my vehicle so I don’t have any suggestions for you.2. Let’s say you want to keep it in your car. Will fumes escape from it and make your life miserable? Absolutely not. This can is 100% absolutely air/gas/fume-tight. The closure is extremely robust and there is a thick rubber gasket. I have driven around with this in my car (an SUV so the trunk is in the cabin) for weeks, with it full and lying on its side, and never has a drop of gasoline escaped or so much as a whiff of fumes. They sell replacement gaskets, so I assume this is a part that may wear out one day, so at worst be on the lookout for that.3. Well if it’s so dang sealed, what’s going to happen when you leave it in the sun or in your hot car? Might it explode? Probably not. Mine’s in south Texas and I park outside at work and home. Interior of vehicle gets up to 140 degrees or so. The construction of the walls of this container seem to allow for non-destructive expansion. Don’t open it when it’s hot, because the gas will “geyser”, but your can should not explode. So this thing is great! You can keep it in your car and it won’t smell or explode, or keep it in an air-conditioned space so you can actually open it, and it won’t smell up the space. Also since it’s air-tight, gas kept in here will last longer than those off-gassing cheap ones at the gas station. Line your house walls with hundreds of these so you’ll have fuel for the zombie apocalypse.Oh, one downside. Putting 5 gallons of fuel into the tank of your car seems to take about 7-10 minutes. It pours slowly, so you do have to hold an initially 40 lb container for a while. Most of the weight is taken up by the fuel port on your car, (that’s how the included spout opens) but still, not something you’re going to like doing on a hot summer day.
