A great collection of memories
A different but very informative text on the thorny subject of Karelia 1939-44. A great collection of memories.

Finnish Diasporo
Highly educated rendering and understanding of the Finnish migration from Karelia , the "diaspora" , as a consequence of the Finno-Russian Winter War. The author helps one to understand the sociological perspective of other diasporo peoples in a similar comparative manner.

Promises much but delivers little - accounts of the evacuations from Karelia in Eastern Finland.
This expensive book provided some tantalising insights into an important and emotional part of Finnish history - the evacuation of Finnish citizens from Karelia - land handed to the Russians. 11 % of the Finnish population was affected by this event. Unfortunately this book, written by a Professor of Anthropology, reads more like a thesis than a reader focused book relaying aspects of social history. I had to skip large parts of the book that were mainly references to other sources and experts in the field and ended up being short changed with a few interesting personalised accounts of the evacuations. There simply was too much boring quoting of sources and not enough book. This book was expensive and the author should have written it with her readership in mind. Please try again.

Review of Remembering Karelia
This book did not meet my expectations. I thought it would be a story about a family's experience about having to leave Karelia. Instead it was the author's commentary about their experience. I am returning the book because it is not what the readers in our library would read.
