Q: Does this sit in the bag like it does in the car ? Or is it kind of standing in the bag?

It closes up and you place it in the book-bag it zips up around the car seat and that’s it.

Q: Does the base also fits in it? For airport travel.

We just bought this and used it (March of 2022) and the base does fit the base. You have to click the car seat into the base first. I’m not sure if the older version was smaller but it does fit. The backpack weighs like 30 lbs all together with the base and stroller inside so it’s heavy, however we used it to gate check our Doona. Baby In the Doona in the airport and then assembled in the bag for gate check. You do not need the base but as we were going on a longer trip and getting a rental car it made sense to just be able to click in the base rather than installing each time.

both the straps and bag are padded the bag is fantastic at protecting the stroller especially for things like flying where they need to check it under the plane
