The Hydroswift Fast Draining kitchen sink strainer is made from high quality ABS thermoplastic (For model: Brilliant Chrome & Sleek Grey) and POM thermoplastic (For model: Space Grey) that is easy to clean, dishwasher safe, highly durable and impact resistant and does not scratch sink surfaces. Its smooth surface enables food particles to slide off easily when emptying it, leaving no odor nor slime as debris will not get stuck to the strainer. Hydroswift effectively filters off debris to keep sinks from soaking and promote water flow to prevent clogging. No more worry for utensils and other small objects slipping down the pipes! The rust-free, stain-resistant, sleek finish will fit your kitchen sink perfectly without letting debris slip underneath. Unlike traditional sink basket, kitchen sink basket strainer, sink strainer basket, sink stopper, food covers mesh, food catcher, or drain stopper for kitchen sink, it has no rubber nor silicone mesh hence it will not tear nor rip. It will not promote mold growth nor require constant cleaning. Hydroswift completes your pet supplies in pet grooming, be it dog grooming, or any small animals that needs an enjoyable bath without its nails trapping in the strainer mesh. not as good as my existing strainer
i thought this item would be better than the strainer i already have, but it is much lighter (floats if the water is turned on full blast nearby) and the wholes are bigger than the one i have (lets small detritus through).i will be returning it (unfortunately i have to pay UPS charge to return it ... yuck).

I am Super Happy with this Gadget
I could be accused of getting overly excited about what some would consider a little thing, but I am super happy with this gadget. I'm one who likes to try new gadgets before most of my friends, and many take my word and follow with their own purchases because they know I'm picky and usually will recommend things only after they've passed my use tests. I would recommend this sink strainer to anyone and everyone, and I plan on getting another one for the other sink. If they made them for the bathroom sink and tub, I'd get those too. (Hint, hint, Parry Spark people.) :-)I've been using my new Hydroswift for about three weeks, and I am convinced I will use this brand from now on. It sits almost flush with the sink, so even though the center is raised to allow water flow even when the basin parts are filled, it's not obtrusive. In addition to fast draining, the raised part gives you something to grab to pick it up and dump caught contents into the trash. Also, the particles release whatever is caught quite easily. The holes seem to be just right to catch anything I don't want to go down the drain, and the holes in the lip prevent the Hydroswift from lifting up and allowing particles to get into the drain by flowing underneath. I've dumped large amounts of particle-filled water into the sink, and the water has drained quickly while straining out the particles.I have used a variety of sink-draining devices and had finally settled on the wire mesh for durability and longevity. I liked how the mesh trapped everything from going down the drain, but I hated how quickly and easily the mesh clogged up and made my sink fill up with water--which would then be filled with all sorts of yucky stuff floating in it. It was always hard to get all the food cleaned out of the little holes, and I hated digging into the food with my fingers. I even tried prying the wires open a little more to see if I could get better drainage, but it didn't help. Also, with the metal mesh, if little stuff that got caught in it didn't get dumped right away, it would get gooey and slimy. Yet another yuck. Not so with the Hyrdoswift. If I could change anything about the Hydroswift, it would simply be to deepen the catch areas just a little more because I have ample room beneath it in my sink. However, that may not be the same for every sink, so I'm certain this is made for the majority of sinks. If it were a little less expensive, I'd probably get a bunch of them and give them for little gifts, but at the price, they will instead be the "great things come in small packages" treats I give to family and special friends. Still, I hope one day they will create sizes set for US bathroom sinks and for tubs, and maybe they'll then sell a set of 4 (2 big sinks, 1 little sink, 1 tub) at a discounted price.

Nice design, effective with caveat
We were using a strainer very similar to the Durastrain Stainless Steel Mesh Sink & Bath Strainer found on Amazon, which often became clogged with grease and soft food debris, creating the non-draining problem this Hydroswift is designed to avoid. The mesh strainer also became mishapen, because the metal rim was thin and narrow, and that allowed food debris to slip under it. The Hydroswift has a much wider rim, which should keep its shape over time and allow it to sit flat over the drain, which will in turn keep debris from slipping under it. The holes in the center arch and space below it allow water to drain around debris that collects in the basket. The silver color is attractive. On the negative side, it is made of light plastic, not metal. I haven't had a problem with it coming out of the drain yet, but it lacks the weight that might otherwise help it sit more firmly. I don't know how much stress the material can take before it fails, and I don't know if the coating will eventually peel off. Currently, when the strainer is whacked against a garbage can to loosen the stickier debris, it seems to hold up, but time will tell. The holes in the rim are some of the first to clog with grease and soft food, and all of them can clog with enough of such waste. But for the most part, it's not difficult to clean it off. Another issue I have is difficulty grabbing onto the arch to lift it off the drain for cleaning when there is a lot of debris collected. I'm not sure if there's an easy fix for that, unless a swinging handle is added. A higher arch would help, but most people wouldn't like the higher profile that would create.Although I'm satisfied with this so far, at the current price of $19, and a dollar more when I bought it, it's overpriced. If the price is lowered substantially, and if I find it holds up well over time, I would give it four stars, maybe even five.

Waste of money
I wanted to like this, but it might be one of my worst purchases ever. First of all, it is way too much money, but I was willing to pay it if it worked. Here is why it doesn't work: it doesn't lay flush with the sink, so food doesn't go into it, it just swirls around; once you have made great effort to get the food in, the hole clogs fast, leaving you with a sink of nasty water; you have to stick your hand in to get this out, which has to be done often because it clogs so fast; once you grab it, there is no handle and it's slippery. I used it once, got incredibly frustrated and trashed it. I came back to Amazon and bought 2 heavy duty strainers that actually work for half the price. I hate this product.

Better than any basket strainer that's ever been put in my sink
I know it might seem like this is a trivial thing, but for every person that's been annoyed by their basket strainer turning 90° and closing up, this is for you. Yes, it's made of plastic, but after a month of use, it hasn't shown any signs of wear, and the functionality is more than I ever would have guessed. Liquid goes through faster than any sink strainer that I've ever found and, to this point, a quick rinse is all it ever needs. If they had one of these that was part metal to give me a little more confidence in its structural integrity, it'd be worth 5x as much. As it is, easily worth the $10 if it makes it a year.

Does its job!
So perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. Our sink is weird and the drain wasn't installed quite right, so a regular drain catch won't work. This thing really seals itself perfectly to the drain and is exactly shallow enough to fit in our drain. Very little gets past this thing, it is SO HANDY. What a relief, after struggling with similar products that didn't work for years .... our sink was always always clogged. Now it is protected. I am ordering more of these things ....
