I bought a used one...
I at first was disappointed. I knew that the edges would be bent but expected it to work. The seller authorized a return refund but I don't have a printer and where I live no one will ship with the scan code . Not the sellers fault .I straightened out the bent parts and replaced a couple of rivets and the vents then freely worked and works great installed . I got what I paid for and the seller did their best .I would buy from them again .

I'm scoring it a 3 because, depending on your needs, it may or may not be the right solution. The "one-piece ABS Cycolac frame" has been replaced with multiple, inaccurately bent, riveted sheet metal parts. While it is no doubt stronger, it is ugly. If the frame is visible from the outside and you care what it looks like, you'll need to cover it. The louvers have gaps at the ends that will not keep out small insects such as termites. The "felt-padded ... louvers" each have two small stick-on felt pads.I returned it immediately.I asked the question of whether or not it would keep out termites. One answer was, "it has a screen covering the inside." It does not have a screen. The other was, "I've not had a problem with bugs," which is an all to typical, foolish answer. How would a person know if termites had gotten past it?

Works ok but could be improved. Be gentle with them and they will do the job
I purchased this 18 month ago for the flaps. I installed an identical model on the end gable 20 years ago and several flaps began to fall off. I needed replacement flaps. I installed two flaps 18 months ago and they are excellent. The basic design works well, but depending on wind direction, they can stick in the vertical position stressing the flap as I have to flip them back into place. The plastic frame appears flimsy, but mine has held for two decades. I wish it were more substantial though. The flaps are very light aluminum. They must be very light so the fan will push them out while running. And they have to be sturdy enough to handle wind. The problem is with wind that will force one of the lower flaps into the upper flap and hold them into a locked vertical position. The only improvement the manufacturer might make is to modify the flap so one flap would not fly under the above flap, locking into the recess, thus forcing the flaps into the open/up position. Some kind of simple tabs on under side of flap might work.I still use and recommend this shutter system. But, it could be improved a bit. In the case of this purchase, the flaps are well made, installed perfectly and work very well.

Attic ventilator
I installed this gable vent shutter with the Ventamatic CX1500 fan.It is a pretty involved project, but with some good planning and elbow grease, I did it in one day.I started by measuring the inside wall and building a frame that would fit in between the rafters on the wall. I had to cut the center 2x4 to fit the frame inside. After drilling holes in all four corners, it was pretty easy to cut out the square from the outside with a concrete blade on a Skil saw. After painting the shutters the same color as the wall, it went on easy and looks great.I had the frame, plate with round hole and fan, all assembled in my garage before anything was installed. So now it was easy to install the plate and the fan on the inside. The wiring should be done by a professional. I did it myself, but unless you are absolutely sure you know what you're doing, don't do it!After a little adjusting, the fan now shuts off at about 85 degrees in the evening. The max temperature in the attic is now about 10 degrees lower than it used to be.Still waiting for the first power bill to see any real saving, but it looks good.

Still working on it
Bought a big old fan, but all the slats don't fully open. For some reason, the upper and lower open, but the middle just rattles. It's in attic, so tweaking it a little every day to see if I can fix it.

Working great so far...
This shutter is the perfect size for the "Air Vent Inc. Gable Attic Ventilator 53315" fan I ordered. Only four stars because I am worried that since the thin aluminum shutter blades are constantly oscillating in the fan breeze, they might start cutting into the plastic bearing where they pivot. No sign of this happening yet after one month. A couple of these blades were in the bottom of the box when I unpacked it, but they are very easy to pop in place on the plastic frame. After some heavy Florida afternoon rains, the attic is dry, and the shutters are working perfectly.

Good product for the price
I bought this item to go with the Ventmatic CX1500 attic fan (also purchased through Amazon). The plastic frame seems a little thin and fragile but I think it will hold up as long as it does not get a direct hit from a hard object. It took paint very well and it was easy to install. I have only had it in for a few weeks but it has worked fine so far. I recommend this to anyone who needs to put in an attic fan on a budget.

For the price, what can you expect
For the price of this product, you really can't complain. There are much more expensive shutters, and attic vents out there, but for the price you really can't go wrong. Granted, I have only had it installed for 2 weeks, and it's working fine. A Little noisey, but still working. The temp. in the house has dropped, and it's serving the purpose. As far as installation, it was a breeze. In the application that I needed, with the wiring being run externally. I was able to install the entire assembly in about 2 hours without having to enter the attic. Which, with temps. being in the mid 90's, was a major bonus.Overall:Quality 1 starUsability 2 starsFunctionallity 4 starsClose enough: 10 stars
