Easy Carpentry Projects for Children (Dover Children's Activity Books) Paperback – April 1, 1986

I bought this for my son to go with a set of "grown up" hand tools he received as a Christmas gift. The book is well written with just enough illustrations...not cluttered with too much information. It's like the author is standing next to you, talking you through the entire project. Every project seems to be laid out in logical order.A caution I'd mention is that the reading level suggested with the book is Ages 4-8...which is accurate...but reading level and carpentry skill are not the same. My son is 6, and this is fun with LOTS of adult supervision. I think he will enjoy this book more when he is in the 8-10 age range.One other caution I would mention is that this book was written in 1959. Some of the projects - like the shoeshine kit - are a bit dated.So, all in all, I would recommend the book, but for an older age-range and don't expect anything high-tech here.

Is easy to understand projects with simple tools. Great fun with my grandsons.

Good Starter Carpentry Book for KidsThis book is a great introduction to basic woodworking for children. The projects are simple and easy to follow, even for beginners with no prior experience. The only downside is that some of the illustrations feel a little outdated and could be clearer for kids trying to follow along on their own. Still a very useful and fun resource.★★★★☆ (4/5)

Looks good but haven't delved into it, because it requires certain tools hard to find on the market (Lowe's has the bigger, badder, battery operated versions of many of the handheld tools found in the book). a tool companion pack would be great. The projects are more challenging, though, than average kids' woodkits, making this a smart buy. Just expect to spend some change on tools unless you have grandpa's old workshop at hand. The book is an oldey but goody.

Not what I expected. It's very much out of date. I think many of the plans and designs could be adapted, but there really isn't much call for a shoeshine box these days, among other items. I thought this would be great for my grandsons, but there really isn't anything in here they'll want to build.I can't imagine why they even reprinted something this dated.

This book is just darling, from the illustrations to the simple but useful projects. I would say that with some supervision my 9 and 7 year olds could do these almost completely by themselves. (My kids have build building and inventing since they were toddling) This book will be the perfect handicraft book for our Charlotte Mason homeschool

This is a classic! I used some of the recipes with my 6 year old this summer and he loved looking through the book and picking out which one we were going to make. I wish there were more drawings but for the price it can't be beat!

Disappointed. Very old, very dated: one of the projects is a shoeshine platform ("huh?" says any kid born post-1985...) The book is actually a 1959 copyright, many of the tools are not ones that would be in a typical tool box today (a coping saw?), and the drawings are not very engaging or high quality for kids raised on color drawings and computer graphics. Frankly, even aside from the shoeshine box, many of the projects just aren't that exciting and seem more for a Leave it to Beaver generation: doll beds and other things seem to be for much younger kids than the ones who would actually be using tools and making stuff. We don't have a younger sibling to give this stuff to, and my 8 year old son is not interested in making a doll bed.
