Simply Fantastic!
What a gift to folklore and fairy tales this book is! Wise and funny, I found many tales I heard as a child that I thought forgotten - lovely to discover them once more and see these stories of the witch the world over!

Witchy Short Stories
The Virago Book Of Witches is a collection of short stories with one theme in common - Witches. These witches are from different times in history, cultures, religions, and countries. Some are retellings by the author too.The stories are all fascinating and they vary in length from just a couple of pages to over ten. Some excited me and held me engrossed, other a little farfetched but I was still captivated by them.If you are a lover of all things to do with witches then you will probably love this book. It is one you don't necessarily read in one go, more over a period of weeks, maybe even just one story now and again. Plus, you don't have to read them in order either.*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

Hm, not really impressed
I was expecting these go be very fairytale like but they were quite boring and they had a very dry quality. I ended up returning it quite fast. A shame as my hopes were rocket-high.

Wonderful read about all things Witchy!
This was a fabulous read about all things witchy!!It's a really varied mixture of over 50 short stories from all around the globe that make mention of witches on all continents, and how folklore and stories of them vary from over many years. The stories vary in length which really makes it a great book to dip in and out of for your witch fix! Many of the stories I'd never heard about so it was lovely to learn about them and read how witches are portrayed depending on culture and religion. There's also a great introduction about the role of Wicca and witchcraft especially now as it seems so popular and looks back on history has treated women over the years. There are also some fascinating notes at the end of the book that give more detail on the writers/origins of each story and that really adds to the feel and place of them.

Not the average book about witches
This is not your average book about witches. It contains stories of folklore, mythology and legends of witches from around the world. Each story is very interesting in it's own way. I particularly loved the story 'The First People and the First Corn', which is a North American Indian witch tale and explains how certain things came into being. If you want to learn more about real witch folklore, this book is a must read.

Meh
I am not picky with books but thia was extremely boring and had a most negative outlook on witches. Very misleading.
