Q: Will they work on aluminum?

No magnets work on aluminum. Aluminum is a non-magnetic metal.

Q: Do they rust if they get wet?

The hooks are indoor and not exposed to moisture, so cannot say if they will rust.

Q: Are the magnets securely attached? The last ones I had, the magnet part and the hook part came apart easily, and I'm concerned about child safety.

I have purchased several sets over the past few years, and mostly they can be unscrewed by an adult; I'm not sure about a determined toddler. I suggest you glue them together at the threads with E-6000 or metal epoxy, whatever looks like it would work best or is recommended by someone in hardware at the Home Depot or your local hardware store. Don't bother with superglue as it is brittle and probably won't hold.

Q: what is diameter of the hook itself? I want to hang a calendar. Calendar holes are usually about 1/8". The hook I have been using is 1/16" .

About 1/16. I’ve been hanging a calendar from mine for a couple of years now. Also, super strong magnet.
