Very disappointing, not for tv aerials
I bought this to test the signal strength from my external TV aerial, as advertised by seller.Nothing worked, no reading, no lights. Tried both ways of wiring but nothing.Waste of money. Very disappointing, not worth one star.

Basic but effective...
I wanted to upgrade the LNB on our existing dish to one with more outputs so I could add satellite connections to more rooms and this little gizmo has been really helpful to check the new one was still in alignment with the best signal. It would be equally helpful in setting up a new dish but there are a couple of things worth knowing. Firstly this device draws the power it needs from the coaxial connection to your Freesat or Sky set-top-box in the same way the LNB on your dish does, so you need to have the coaxial cable connection to your STB in place before you start. Also because this satellite finder has to sit inline between the LNB and your STB so you'll need a short coax cable to run between this device and the LNB on your dish and none is supplied. This unit is very basic and seems to rely on vintage tech to operate - the needle swings back and forth as you move the unit - so a bit of care is needed, best to keep it in a fixed position as you work if possible. The operating principle is simple and old-school too, you connect it up and set the level control knob to about halfway. Move the dish around until you've found your strongest signal and the needle hits 10 and then turn the knob so the needle goes back down to about 5 and tweak the dish position again to see if you can get it back up to around 10. Rinse and repeat until you've fine-tuned the dish's position to the very strongest signal and you're done. TBH you can get more sophisticated gizmos without spending too much more than the (full retail) price of this one, but it works well enough and gets the job done.

It is good enough for occasional domestic use
My satellite dish was installed several years ago and remained happily in position until a recent mishap sent it out of alignment, and the signal to my box and TV failed. I used this tuner box to re-position it so that the signal was restored, and peace reigned again in the home as TV viewing resumed. Luckily, I had a satellite cable to hand for the connection to the box as there isn’t one supplied. The instructions were easy to understand and the process was fairly straightforward to carry out. The finder box itself is relatively cheaply made with plastic parts and best suited to occasional domestic use.
