... and no pendulum (but some going back and forth, nonetheless)...
I am sure several others have noticed that this is probably where they got the idea for Mister Bean's best friend, or Ted (2012). Actually, I feel anything I might say has been said before...Surprisingly good, incredibly effective tale about the law of gravity applied to human development and relationships; everybody ends up falling whole into the hole, or viceversa... I think this movie deserves much more credit than it's gotten so far... Seems like even the extras took their job very seriously... Indeed one of the best kept secrets from the True North...... Not to say this is a perfect movie. Nothing is perfect. There's one particular scene from which I infer people were too infatuated with audio cassette technology back then. Even though it throws any credibility and plausibility out the window, I guess this is what you can call true love. Even that apparent flaw is part of a whole to me; just like a living person. Maybe it was that they should have shown Teddy instead of portable audio playing devices there...The last quarter of the film is tricky, but not without payoff. Up to a point this was a puppy love story (as sick as the aforementioned puppy may seem to some), and all of a sudden turns into a full scale monster on the loose flick. I thought I was watching a different movie altogether, but I was patient enough not to hit the pause button and take a restroom break to learn a valuable lesson... Secrets are meant to be kept... even if it takes a couple of pounds of dirt...I have envisioned a future where they will show this and George A. Romero's Martin in a double feature. They intersect in several spots, from beginning to end, unexpectedly...Kino Lorber again packed this with plenty of extras. Insightful and fun interviews with the people who played Jamie the Kid and Sandy the Babysitter, respectively, are only some of them...This is just great storytelling where everyone involved did the best they could. Like I said lines before, down to the least noticeable person on board...

What I think of this film....weird?!?!
I would never classify this as a horror movie. Yes there are some bloody deaths, but it's not scary. This film comes across as a B- drama movie. The story is basically about a boy who is a social misfit. He has a hard time making friends, while at the same time puberty is kicking in and he's interested in his female babysitter. During this time he has conversations with a teddy bear (who sometimes moves on its own), and the boy has a secret. The secret is that he has found a hole, which contains troll like creatures. These things don't like human food, so the boy feeds the "bad" people of the town to these creatures. However, after the boy's babysitter accidently falls in the hole/ gets eaten by the trolls, the boy helps them to get out of the hole....and it goes on like this. This movie is interesting to watch because it is soooo weird, and is poorly put together. For example, the teddy bear and the boy have conversations, at first, the viewer thinks the boys insane. However, there are a couple scenes in which the boy leaves the bear by itself, and the bear moves it's head, or it's eyes glow. The viewer starts to think "oh it's those troll creatures that are using the bear to encourage the boy to feed them." However, this is never proven to be the case.I like this film just because it is so weird, and its worth watching. Its not as weird as other films like Meet the Feebles, Spider Baby, The Baby, or Troll, but it has its memorable moments. It has a similar weird feel like the movie Devil Times 5. Where there is story, but on many levels is poorly written, and it has a lot of "what?" moments.

What a strange film, but so much fun
I love the strange plot line and story subtext. This film is not for everyone, but I enjoy this film a lot.

Perfect 80's creature feature
Every now and then, you come across an obscure film that is so perfectly executed, you can't understand how its not talked about in the annuls of cult classics. Character development is great, you actually invest in the characters. You get to see the creatures enough, but not too much. The sociopathic escalation of the main character is subtle and brilliant. The ending is classic. I cant believe it took me 40 years to see this movie. For me, being an 80's kid? It was worth the wait. Love this movie.

Moral of the story... Don't be an @-hole
This is one of my favorite films. I wish they would give this film its own DVD release and not that crappy 2 in 1 deal. Anyways, this film is pretty straight forward. Jamie is a lonely boy whose only friend is his stuffed Teddy. Everyone in his town is mean to him and his parents are never home, leaving him with a baby sitter for most of his time. He explores the woods one day and finds a giant hole in the ground with monsters that dwell below. He begins to feed them pounds and pounds of raw meat but once he runs out of money, he has to find a new way to feed his friends. Perhaps the mean people in town will suffice?I found this film to be very humorous. I don't know if the film was intended to be funny but I think it worked to their advantage. Jamie looks like a kid but his mind is that of a teenager in his prime. He pulls a few pranks, which I will not give away, that were really funny and perverted. All in all I think this is an absolute must have for any collector. Don't let this one pass you by, get it!

A kid pushes his enemies into a hole with monsters and he may or may not have been directed to do so by his teddy bear?
What else is there to say? It's the story of a little boy who feeds everyone he doesn't like to monsters in a pit. He may or may not be directed by a teddy bear that appears in his mind yet inexpicibly moves during one scene. A fantastic way to spend a night. This movie has to be seen to be believed. One of the true oddities, a one of a kind. The transfer on this release is probably the best thing this obsecure film will ever see. The extras are a nice touch - checking in with most of the younger stars now and a lot of insight into how this film came to be. Especially the score which sounds like it cost more to make than the entire film - still blown away they pulled off this score on a production effort of this size. It is out of place by any means and the extras cover how that happened. Strongly recommend this blu ray.

The pit will hook you
Horror film about a disturbed boy who allows his personal demons get to him physically as well as mentally. Jamie (Sammy snyder) a Lonely boy with no friends suffers hullacinations by "talking" to his teddy bear which is his own voice talking back to him, telling him to feed the townspeople that were mean to him to four trolls, living in a pit deep in the woods. The only person that tries to understand him is his babysitter (Jeannie Elias), can she learn to love jamie or will she be another unwilling victim of the PIT! creepy film that has some funny moments in it but gets to you in the head the way deliverence did but Deliverence did it better. Rik Morden directs this little thriller to good effect.

Glad it's on disc after all these years.
Watched this movie on tv when I was a kid and really liked it. I got to watch it again on vhs years later, but sadly, vhs is over with. I'm glad they brought it out again on disc because it's a great movie. Sort of a black comedy I suppose, because the disturbing horror elements are done in a way that makes they seem sort of funny. Basically it's about this creepy kid who finds a pit of monsters and starts pushing people into it (anyone he doesn't like). To me it's a cult classic, but maybe that's just me.

Fantastic (Beware Spoilers)
The Pit is a genuinely entertaining film. What could be better than seeing the actor who once portrayed Tom Sawyer on TV,who, when he isn't being a peeping tom or general miscreant- pushes various people into a pit to be consumed by voracious Troglodytes. He is given further advice by his demonic teddy bear. The print looks great and extras are good. Required viewing for cult movie fans .
