Best budget TX available, by far!!
This is an amazingly capable and well-designed transmitter for such a price! You can get it cheaper elsewhere (and probably have to wait for restocking), but I prefer paying a slight premium for fast Prime shipping and the comfort of having stellar Amazon customer service for immediate support if there are any problems (good luck with that on the usual discount sites). Fortunately, the radio is working well, and I'm super happy with it so far! That said, other sites do sell it in other colors besides white, but it's probably just a matter of time until those show up on amazon, too.I only use it for mini/micro quads now, but I can see how I can grow into more complex setups with other aircraft as I branch out. The richness of the OpenTX mixer abstraction, the extensibility of using external modules, and the abundance of programmable switches mean I won't need a fancier TX anytime soon. The rubber grips on the bottom are comfortable in the hand, and the scroll wheel and redesigned page/menu/exit button cluster is much nicer than the pure button-based approach of its predecessor, the X9D. I don't care if the screen is slightly smaller and lower-resolution; I can see what I need to on this one, and with the goggles on, I'm listening more than looking, anyway.OpenTX can be a bit trickier to setup than a simpler TX at first, if you're not familiar with it already. There are many beginner videos on youtube that can get you quickly in the air for a specific aircraft, but I found most of them were pretty light on detail as far as really grokking the OpenTX programming model. Also - sadly - many of them are giving bad advice for getting a proper setup.A standout exception is the Painless360 youtube channel, which took me way too long to stumble across. He has an ever-growing playlist on the Taranis Q X7 transmitter specifically, as well as tons of other videos on the X9D and OpenTX more generally. I'm not sure why his avatar is a blue and red pill for an RC channel, but his info is solid, and I'm still working through his more advanced material. Thanks, Painless360, if you're reading this! :-)

Such a deal!
I'm so glad I bought this. Unlike others I'd seen, my came with the left hand gimbal unsprung so I didn't have to get the back off and screw around with it. It's a great radio. Open TX was what I wanted and this was a very economical way to get that. The radio is solid, feels good and works well out of the box. A few mods make it exceptional. Mods like the recently made available FrSky M7 Hall Sensor Gimbal for FrSky Taranis Q X7. Woot!

More than suffiscient for beginners
Feels solid, many many functions, buttons all over, but thank the internet's gods for tutorials and walk-throughs to set this thing up. There's a steep learning curve to pair this with a compatible receiver or drone/plane.MY TIP: Give yourself a couple of hours to set it up, this WILL NOT work straight out of the box after feeding it AA batteries on Christmas morning.Love it.

Great remote
All I read online about the Taranis QX7 is that it is a great remote, and I can't deny it.It is highly customizable and that's cool. If you're a beginner it may seem confusing at first, but luckily there are a lot of guides on the internet to help set it up.It's comfortable to use and the sticks are very accurate.I'm no expert in FVP, but this remote makes me confident I can get better.Highly recommended.

Expensive, No Battery or Battery Tray, Unreliable
Same as some others have stated, no battery or tray for this money is pretty outrageous. Additionally, mine bricked as well, right after sending my drone into what I can only describe as a seizure. Then it became unresponsive and would only make a clicking noise when I hit the power button. Been trying different remedies for days, but nothing is helping.I’ll be looking for an alternative product.

Controller is good, Frsky Receivers not so much
I liked all the combinations of switches and pots that can be customized to do so many different things. The controller itself seemed solid for the price. My only issue is that if you want to be confident that you won't failsafe, you need to purchase additional modules that operate on lower frequencies and provide better range. This hobby is everything buy cheap, and after two different standard frsky receivers failsafed on me, with one of them destroying nearly every part of my drone it was clear I needed a change.I decided to go the route of buying a controller that is designed for long range without needing to buy addon modules. I did have to buy a new receiver, but I haven't even gotten close to a failsafe at over 2km away. My video will cut out before the controller does and that's the order you want it to happen. The opposite you probably would just helplessly watch your craft drop out of the air.I should have went this route to begin with as I now have an excess of frsky receivers that I can no longer use. If your on the fence just realize that you will eventually want longer range, and to get that you will have to buy modules that are close to the price of this controller and the receivers to go with them. Food for thought.

This is my favorite radio, ever.
Switched to FrSky from Spektrum (and HiTec prior to that).I've only used this for flying quadcopters (both real and simulator).I was hesitant to purchase this radio since many reviews mention it's complexity and steep learning curve.I am glad I made the switch. The learning curve was a non-issue given the amount of documentation available online. So many features, many I'm sure I have yet to discover.
