So disappointing
Don't buy this turkey of a NAS. Mine is not reliable. Any sort of file operation beyond one of two very small files simply does not work almost all of the time. I have tried many different network settings, to include bypassing any router or switch and simply going over Ethernet via static IP. I have tried every RAID setting. I have upgraded the firmware. Nothing fixes it. It's a file server that cannot handle files!!! It is a mystery why this is happening. This should not be that hard! But the device simply bombs out and goes into LaLa Land if you give it anything beyond very, very trivial file operations.

No access without internet.
Be aware, that all authentication for this NAS device is performed on WD authentication servers and not on the NAS itself. This means that unless you are willing to hack the device and void the warranty, you cannot access any of your data unless the NAS has connection to the internet. This also means that if WD shuts down their servers or changes authentication cyphers in a way that this NAS cannot support, you will lose all access to your data. If this is OK with you, this device is a cheap way to get a lot of storage. It is not OK for me. I returned the mycloud device and am going with a more capable and access Synology option.

DO NOT BUY, PERIOD
Suddenly HDs no longer detected, impossible to recover data, HDs inserted but not recognized, cannot even reformat, lost YEARS of data.
