Excellent EDC for us absent minded old people
Keven M Nelson is my wife; I'm Jack and the knife is for me. They just delivered it today. Fisrt impressions: The lock is strong but a simple liner lock would have been great for my purposes (or an AXIS lock). I knew that when I bought it, so no slam on Buck here. Closing it one-handed is tricky but I have two hands, so it's not really a big deal. One handed opening is much more critical. The blade is not shiny, but rather a dull patina, which reduces glare from light sources and somewhat hides scratches, both of which are preferred by me. The blade length and shape are ideal for the kind of stuff I use it for - mostly for opening shipping cartons, sharpening pencils (rarely), using the flat of the blade to open small boxes without tearing them, opening food packages, and anyother small task I may have for it. The 420HC steel is low end, hence the low price but it holds an edge well enough do all the things I listed above and more. A serated edge might be even more efficient but it's more tedious to resharpen. Pursuant to that, the edge was not razor sharp (or much of any kind of sharp) when I opened it on arrival, but I had it shaving my arm hair in no time with a simple stone my grandmother gave me in the early 60's. It could be honed sharper, but I don't need more than that. It's for pocket knife chores, not emergency surgury.I bought this knife after losing two benchmade mini-griptilian knives. I found them to be perfect in every way, but at over $100 a copy I just can't afford that, even if it's only every two years or so (plus I was heartsick about it too). I'm sure this knife will work just fine and I really do like it, but being in my late 60's I'll probably lose this one sooner or later...and I'll order another one. I can afford that.

Lightweight Knife
This knife is a cousin to the Bantam 284, except it has a pocket clip. Same type of construction without liners. The only weakness is the rivet construction on both the Rival and Bantam series prevents disassembly Both the Bantam and Rival series are a good USA value for the money.

Worst knife design
This knife while promising, falls completely flat. So flat, that I have lost almost all respect for Buck knives.I'll almost certainly never buy another Buck again due to the stupid opening design on this knife. It has a thumb stud for one hand opening, but when you press it, there is so much tension that must be over come to open it. So, as your thumb presses the thumb stud and opens it, your thumb falls under the blade and presses upwards into it - thus cutting your thumb.I tried it multiple times, and multiple times cut my thumb. I thought surely I was doing something wrong. I have owned many pocket knives over the years and have never seen such a poor design. You can not open this knife one-handed slowly. You must "whip" it every time or else your thumb will be bleeding. If you don't want to whip it, tough. Bad elbow or shoulder? Tough. You must either whip it, or two hand open it.Everything else about the knife is pretty perfect. Size, weight, deep pocket clip - but where is the assisted opening? The resistance on opening is poor and non-adjustable. Did anyone test these knives before they shipped out!? Where is the quality control? I can't believe Buck would send out such a poorly tested knife. Highly disappointed.

Best everyday carry knife for the price!
If you're looking for an everyday carry knife that isn't expensive but holds a GREAT edge. This is the knife!. Love how it sits on the pocket and don't even know its there and does not scrape your hand when going in your pocket.

Just what I was looking for
I spent hours and hours looking for a clipping pocket knife for everyday carry that was small, not a piece of junk, and not overly expensive. I don't how I missed this little knife in my search, especially as a longtime Buck fan. I almost bought another Buck made in China, but whenever I flip this open and see USA on the blade, I feel good about my choice. (I have two Chinese made Buck knives and they're great, nothing wrong with them as Buck makes sure the manufacturing is up to standards, but there's still something nice about knowing this was made in Idaho.) This knife is ideal as a lightweight pocketable blade you can always have on hand. I love both the feel and the shape of the molded nylon handle.

Buck USA quality
For the price, this is an incredible knife. I prefer lock backs to liner locks, which is individual preference but I give the lock feature 5 starts. Lightweight handle is great, I work in an office but also find myself in the warehouse and this is a great knife to have for that. Love the blade...its not highly polished SS, it is the duller finish and to me it just looks like it is meant for business. I had to take it over a soft Arkansas stone a few times to get it as sharp as I wanted, it took a sharp edge quickly and easily. Buy this. For the price...A bonified Made In USA product...you will be happy you added this to your collection!

Hard to Beat for the Money
This is the first knife I have own that does have liners. I wasn't sure how reliable the knife would be without having liners but so far the knife has been great. I don't even think about it not having liners now, for the money this knife is hard to beat. I would definitely buy another one.
