Sort Of Multi-Functional
Pros:DecentCan Scribe L LineCan Scribe A CircleCan Edge RuleCons:Only Really Effective on Flat Surfaces With No ObstaclesLimited UsesContouring Not So MuchWhat I received in the package:1 x BOXMIME Scribe Tool1 x Mechanical Pencil2 x Red Lead Refills2 x Black Lead Refills2 x Yellow Lead Refills1 x Plastic Lead Case1 x Cloth Storage Bag1 x Instruction ManualThis BOXMIME Scribe Tool product comes with everything you need to layout certain types of work. In my work, I find this tool to have a very limited usage. That would require a flat wall surface to be able to scribe from. The arm can articulate in a couple ways, which is nice. One down side is that this tool is only designed to work with the mechanical pencil that comes with it. So if you run out of filler you have to get more or get something that is equally as narrow as the mechanical pencil. That limits its use as well. All that said, I really like this tool for what it can do. It is relatively simple to use. It also comes with a compass point end for makes circles or working from a fixed position. It works okay. The cantilever, for lack of a better term, that holds the pencil I found to loosen and I have to tighten it up to hold the pencil in place where I wanted it. It will loosen up occasionally and the hex bolt needs to be retightened. So anything other than fully collapsed ends up being an issue with it not staying in place where you set the articulation. In testing this against my contouring gauge. I found the contouring gauge to be easier to use and more accurate. But I can still see a need for this tool.I appreciate you taking the time to read this. All in all, decent tool with limited use. A bit underwhelmed by the edge tracking, compass use & contouring capabilities of this tool. I Hope this information was helpful. [3 Stars]

Read It And Weep
I've been reading since I was about 5 years old. Gotten pretty good at it too. But when I read through the instructions for this thing I had to wonder if I was in need of a remedial English course. Well, somebody somewhere sure does.I'm almost positive they use two different names for the same part in various sections. They do helpfully number each part they describe (No. 1, No. 2, etc.) that correspond with names such as Deep Hole Pencil, Deep Hole Pencil Holder and Aluminum Alloy Bracket but I'm left to my own devices to determine which is the Bracket Holding Knob or could it be the Pencil Holder Angle Adjustment Knob. They tell me to rotate the Compass Pins (there are compass pins?) to remove them, then to insert it (them?) into the round hole (an illustration labeled Round Hole is quite informative) and to then press the Compass Pins Insertion Plane (obviously self explanatory) with my fingers (I tried it with one finger, can't be done and should not be attempted, apparently).I did finally figure out how to use this thing (in less time than it took me to read through the directions) and it does work well although I still prefer to use a simple compass to draw circles or to scribe lines between, what they bizarrely call, my Shape Taking Surface and the Clipping Surface. Have fun!

very well made, wish the locking mechanism were a bit stronger
This is a nice, and very handy little tool. It is made of solid aluminum and feels very robust, the scribing features work great. I used it to scribe the edge of a kitchen countertop to an uneven wall. The offsets and scale included make it even more useful for scribing accurately. It came with several different lead colors, and the thick leads held up well when scribing, I never had one break. The compass feature and included carry bag is a nice bonus too. The only thing I would improve on it would be how strong the thumb screw locks the selected angle in place. I found that even tightening as much as I could with finger pressure, you still had to be careful not to change the angle set when scribing. Some sort of locking mechanism would be a great future modification. I see myself using this tool often as is and would definitely recommend it.

Okay for less than $30
I like it, but it's not intuitive, which I don't like. So I have mixed feelings on it. When I need it, it will be great. But it's difficult to understand how to use it. MFG needs to post a video. It came with extra pencil leads in different colors. It came with an unmarked case. Why not label it clearly that it's a scribe so that I can locate it in a drawer? I'll use a marker on it myself. Easy fixes....

This thing is solid!
I've had a few different versions of scribes and all were plastic which made it difficult to keep them adjusted and free of movement. This one is all aluminum with great adjustments and is a breeze to lock in. Once it's adjusted it stays where you set it and does a great job of marking. I like that it includes multiple marking color inserts and a case to keep everything in.It's a little tricky to remember how to align it after it's been folder up for a while, but after a few uses should be easy enough. Overall, I wish I'd found this sooner as it would have saved me a ton of frustration from the other ones I'd tried.

Imprecise, for rough work.
Has many features and uses but isn’t accurate enough for precise work.As a compass the pivot will not lock in place no matter how tight the lock screw is tightened. The short pivoting arm that holds the pencil is too loose and does not lock. What is usually a sharp pivoting point is instead a 1/8” screwdriver tip that walks slightly and slips easily. The markings for the scribe are accurate and the lock securely holds settings. The lumber pencil with built-in sharpener and six 4-1/2” refills is a nice feature but it fits loosely in the scribes holes.Overall it’s a good concept, lacking in refinement. I have an old Teledyne draftsman’s compass set that works much better for most of the tasks this scribe was designed to do.Buy a draftsman’s set at your local college bookstore, or better yet, pick up a Teledyne on EBay.I’ll keep the pencil
