... my Synology NAS and so far they are working like a charm
I’ve purchased 3 of these 8TB drives for my Synology NAS and so far they are working like a charm.I’ve had no sign of the noise and DOA issues that others have mentioned.I have to admit to chuckling at some of the one star ratings. For goodness sake, the disk being resposible for corrupting the PC’s BIOS; I think the PC needs to be taken away from these people before they blame it for Brexit as well! 😜

Great NAS Server Disks - WD Red 8TB
Replaced two WD Red 4TB drives with these new WD Red 8 TB drives in my Synology NAS. In over 10 years of using WD disks in all my NAS servers I have never had a disk problem. You can get cheaper and larger disks, but when running as a NAS server and data integrity and reliability is key, I keep returning to the WD Red drives. I have found them to be reliable, quiet and fast.

Great drive with one slight downside...
Noise! When installed in a 24/7 NAS they can be heard. I'm not talking Seagate bang, clunk clickty click noise, just a higher spindle noise. Compared to 6TB WD RED they are noisier and about 6 degrees C hotter. Running 37 degrees in a 4 bay Synology NAS compared to 31 degrees for the 6TD WD Red drives. Always had good luck with WD drives. Only ever had to return one in warranty and have had over 20 WD drives over the years.

Good HDD, survives delivery in bad packaging
The drive I got (sold by Amazon.co.uk) was really badly packaged, just in a single layer of bubble wrap and it had scratches on its label sticker on delivery. After 3 days of tests there seem to be no problems with the drive, all sectors are working fine for now, which shows that the drive itself is good. I'll try to add more info after I've used it for a while.

But I've never seen two identical drives fail sequentially like this. I would avoid this drive like the ...
I very rarely write Amazon reviews. But this hard drive is junk. I had two of these in my Synology NAS. Both failed, within a week, causing me to lose all my data in my RAID. This is not the first time I have had issues with Western Digital drives. I had a WD drive that was not labeled or made for NAS (Green) that failed; and I had another one that was a Red 5TB that failed where I know they had some manufacturing problems. But I've never seen two identical drives fail sequentially like this. I would avoid this drive like the plague.

8TB HDD well worth the money.
Works a treat, the HDD came well protected in bubble wrap, also was not home when royal mail tried to deliver they could of posted the package but signature was needed was a bit of a pain but fully understand why.

Packaging problems
I have ordered two of these drives over the past few months so far and their performance has been very good - They're running 24/7 in a NAS enclosure with light workload. Were I reviewing the drives alone this would be a 5 star review. The three stars is due to the execrable job Amazon themselves do packaging this product. Some came in an acceptable bubble wrap type affair but the most recent drive was delivered in an anti static bag with no impact protection whatsoever. To top it off the anti static bag showed clear signs of wear and looked to be punctured in several places over the circuitry. The Amazon price may be good but given the number of other reviewers receiving DOA drives I have to wonder if maybe they could charge a little more and invest in a roll of bubble wrap...

8TB WD RED
It's an 8tb HDD with Helium, what's not to love. It's rater for 29db at maximum spin --> it's quiet, it's energy efficient and it's really fast considering it's a 5400 rpm drive. Price per GB is currently at 0.036p/GB, which is damn cheap for the size and speed.
