Very thin, but filters well
Mounted some led fairy lamps to light a clock, but they were too bright. Because of the clock design, I was able to cut and fit this filter material and 1 layer worked perfectly. I expected this material to be a lot thicker than it is, however it worked well

Not great
Only bought this as my usual place ran out of the real stuff that's not made in china. Very poor quality but did what I needed, however I had to replace with better stuff as it is so thin and creases badly could only be used once.

Useful for selective exposure control
These filter sheets enable fine control over individual lamp output in a studio environment. Of course, studio lights normally feature variable light output (intensity) but sometime creativity demands that even greater control be selectively imposed. It is in this situation that these gels will find a use.The gels are neutral coloured (grey) and do not appear to shift the colour balance of the photograph. The gels are made of a very thin and flexible polyester material which suggests that they are really best used in a studio environment as they will definitely flap about in the slightest breeze. Careful handling is required to avoid creasing the material and for regular use I would advocate mounting the material in a supporting frame. The robust polyester material cuts easily but does not tear under normal conditions of use.To test the filters in use, I set up my faithful model 'Flossie' in the studio, lit from a single monobloc flash head. The flash head was fitted with a standard 7" (18 cm) reflector and a support arm was arranged to hold the filter sheets approximately 75 mm (3") in front of the front rim of the reflector. Background lighting was supplied by a 2 x 2.2 m softbox containing four flash heads set to give a constant light output throughout the trials.During the course of the tests, the flash output from the main flash head was unchanged, as were the shutter speed, the lens aperture and the ISO setting: the only variable was the gel suspended in front of the flash heaad. A series of exposures was taken starting with the unfiltered flash, then with the flash screened in turn, by the ND3; ND6; and ND9 gels, finishing using all three gels simultaneously to create the effect of an ND18 filter. The resulting photographs are shown, from which the effect of using the filters can clearly be seen, with the illumination diminishing with each increase in filter density.I doubt that these filter sheets will be an everyday tool in my studio but I am equally sure that they will be very useful to help answer some of those "Now, how am I going to achieve that" situations. I look forward to exercising these new tools in my lighting toolbox!
